Fairview Stabbing Investigation: 60-Year-Old Man Charged with Attempted Murder

FAIRVIEW, NJ — A violent early-morning confrontation on Grant Street has resulted in the arrest of a local man on first-degree attempted murder charges. Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella confirmed the arrest of Victor A. Soto, 60, following a swift joint investigation by the Fairview Police Department and the Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit.

Midnight Violence on Grant Street

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, March 14, 2026. At approximately 1:23 a.m., Fairview police officers were dispatched to Grant Street following reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a 60-year-old male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to his face, hands, and legs. The victim was rushed to HMH Palisades Medical Center with serious injuries, where he remains hospitalized.

The Investigation and Arrest

While the suspect initially fled the scene, Fairview Police officers acted quickly to locate and detain a man nearby. Following a collaborative investigation involving the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit, the individual was identified as Victor A. Soto.

Authorities allege that Soto assaulted the victim, stabbing him multiple times before attempting to evade capture.

Serious Legal Charges Filed

Victor A. Soto now faces several high-level felony charges in Bergen County Superior Court:

  • First-Degree Attempted Murder

  • Second-Degree Aggravated Assault

  • Third-Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose

  • Fourth-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon

Soto has been remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his upcoming court appearance.

Official Statement: Prosecutor Musella emphasized that these charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
