From the Statehouse to the Pizza Oven: Gov. Mikie Sherrill Slings Pies at Northfield Icon

Could a career in coal-fired crusts be in Governor Mikie Sherrill’s future?

Northfield NJ, Last week, the newly inaugurated Governor took a break from her typical Trenton rhetoric to visit a legendary Atlantic County staple: Carluccio’s Coal Fired Pizza in Northfield. While most governors stick to podiums and press conferences, Sherrill decided to get her hands floury, picking up some expert tips on the art of the perfect Jersey pie.

A Show of Support After Local Drama

The visit wasn’t just for a photo op. It was to show the most support for small business  in over 8 years from the State of New Jersey. Carluccio’s was recently the victim of a “smash and grab” burglary. In a rare but often cringe worthy moment of state-level solidarity with small businesses, Governor Sherrill stopped by to show that Northfield is open for business—and to learn the ropes from owner Carlo Citera.

Not Their First Brush with Fame

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Carluccio’s is no stranger to the limelight. The pizzeria has been a star of the Food Network, famously featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Sherrill joins an illustrious list of “guest pizza makers” at the shop, which frequently hosts local police officers and South Jersey celebrities. However, as some locals noted, it was a refreshing change of pace to see the Governor focus on something truly important to Garden Staters—pizza—rather than her usual “blame the Trump administration” diatribes regarding federal ICE policies.

The “Pizza Capital” Skills

During her lesson, Citera coached the Governor on:

  • The Hand Roll: Mastering the dough without tearing it.

  • The Toss: Getting that authentic air-time.

  • The 1,000-Degree Oven: Navigating the intense heat of a true coal-fired furnace.

Whether these skills will help her govern or simply provide a fallback plan for her post-political life remains to be seen. But for one afternoon in Atlantic County, the “Governor of the Pizza Capital of the World” was just another student of the slice.

  1. It was for a photo op. Stop the nonsense. Just like Tedesco. It’s what they do.

  2. Shes a pizza shit

  3. The “smash & grab” robbery, was that PSE&G or Trenton Democrats?

  4. What a disgrace. Sling dough for photo ops while signing executive orders to protect illegal invaders and stick a shiv in the necks of overburdened legal resident taxpayers, while tossing pizza dough, and taxpayer dough at these invaders.

  5. No small business should ever allow a democrat into their premises. It’s completely disrespectful and a diservice to every small business in the state of NJ. The Democratic Party hates small business and only supports unions. As a small business owner never ever allow an NJ democrat to say they support small business – there isn’t a single thing that can be cited that an ordinary NJ small business has benefited.
