TRENTON, NJ — In a major blow to tri-state narcotics trafficking, authorities have dismantled a sophisticated drug distribution network operating out of Bergen County. Attorney General Jennifer Davenport announced the arrest of four local residents following a high-stakes investigation that uncovered over half a million dollars in cash, high-capacity firearms, and a staggering variety of illicit substances.
The takedown, led by the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) and the DEA, marks one of the most significant drug seizures in the region this year.
The Mastermind and the “Stash” Locations
At the center of the operation is Kwang Joo, 40, of Palisades Park. Prosecutors have labeled Joo the organizer of a sprawling scheme that moved massive quantities of narcotics across New Jersey and New York.
During the investigation, detectives intercepted multiple transactions, including:
-
The Paterson Stop: 9 kilograms of cocaine found in a duffle bag.
-
The Queens Arrest: 14 kilograms of cocaine seized from courier Benjamin Oser.
-
The Motherlode: A suitcase containing 33 kilograms of cocaine linked to Sung Sohn.
A raid on the group’s “stash locations” revealed a virtual pharmacy of illegal drugs, including the trendy and dangerous “Tusi” (pink cocaine), alongside rifles and handguns equipped with large-capacity magazines.
The Arrested Defendants
The following Bergen County residents are facing serious felony charges:
-
Kwang Joo (40, Palisades Park): 1st-Degree Conspiracy, Money Laundering, and Weapons Charges.
-
Hannah Oh (29, Palisades Park): Conspiracy and Distribution.
-
Sung Sohn (45, Englewood Cliffs): Possession and Distribution of Cocaine.
-
Benjamin Oser (41, Fort Lee): Narcotics Trafficking and Distribution.
By The Numbers: The Massive Seizure
The scale of the operation is reflected in the sheer volume of contraband recovered by the NJSP Drug Trafficking North Unit:
| Item | Quantity |
| Cash (Criminal Proceeds) | $520,000 |
| Cocaine | 57 Kilograms |
| Adderall Pills | 38,337 Pills |
| MDMA (Ecstasy) | 880 Grams |
| Psilocybin (Mushrooms) | 1,675 Grams |
| Tusi (Pink Cocaine) | 250 Grams |
| Weapons | 2 Handguns, 1 Rifle |
“A Direct Engine of Violence”
“Illegal drug trafficking and possession of dangerous weapons continue to be a huge threat to the safety of our residents,” said Attorney General Davenport.
Acting Superintendent of the NJSP, Jeanne Hengemuhle, emphasized the gravity of the bust, stating that drug trafficking is a “direct engine of violence” that tears at the fabric of local communities. Authorities credit the seamless collaboration between the DEA New York Task Force, the NJSP, and local departments in Irvington and East Rutherford for the success of the operation.
If convicted, the defendants face 10 to 20 years in state prison for first-degree charges.
Note: The charges are merely accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
