Miracle on Route 17: Driver and Dog “Adam” Escape Overturned SUV in Ho-Ho-Kus

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, A routine Wednesday afternoon commute turned into a scene of chaotic relief on Route 17 Southbound today. At approximately 3:00 PM on April 29, 2026, a Honda Pilot flipped onto its roof near the Racetrack Road exit in Ho-Ho-Kus, leaving witnesses fearing the worst.
However, in a turn of events that many are calling a miracle, both the driver and his dog, Adam, managed to escape the mangled SUV without serious injury.
Emergency Response and Traffic Gridlock
The crash triggered an immediate and massive response from local authorities. The following agencies were on-site to secure the area and provide medical evaluations:

While the occupants are safe, the same couldn’t be said for the afternoon commute. Route 17 Southbound saw miles of “stop-and-go” traffic stretching far north of the crash site as emergency crews closed the right travel lane. A flatbed tow truck arrived shortly after to right the overturned Honda and clear the wreckage.
The Cause Remains Under Investigation
As of Wednesday evening, the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the rollover. Whether it was a mechanical failure, road conditions, or a sudden swerve, the focus remains on the incredible survival of the man and his canine companion.
“To see a vehicle in that condition and have both the driver and his dog walk away… it’s just a relief for everyone involved,” noted one bystander.
