CLOSTER, NEW JERSEY – A joint investigation between the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has led to the arrest of a Closter resident on charges of attempted child endangerment.

The Investigation: From Connecticut to Bergen County

The case began in November 2025 when the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit coordinated with the NCIS Northeast Field Office in Connecticut.

According to officials, the investigation centered on online activity occurring between May and July 2025. An undercover NCIS agent, posing as a 14-year-old minor, was allegedly contacted by a male suspect. The suspect is accused of:

  • Engaging in explicit sexual conversations with the purported minor.

  • Sending nude photographs.

  • Offering financial compensation for sexual acts.

Suspect Identified as Kenneth G. Belhumer, Jr.

Following a digital trail that led back to Bergen County, investigators identified Kenneth G. Belhumer, Jr., 58, of Closter, NJ, as the primary suspect.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, authorities executed a search warrant at Belhumer’s residence. Evidence recovered during the search allegedly confirmed that Belhumer had engaged in the illicit conversations with the undercover agent.

Legal Charges and Remand

Kenneth G. Belhumer, Jr. has been charged with:

  • Third-Degree Attempted Child Endangerment (N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1) / 24-4a(1))

Belhumer was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his initial appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

Multi-Agency Cooperation

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella extended his gratitude to the numerous agencies involved in the task force, including:

  • NCIS Northeast Field Office

  • Department of Homeland Security (HSI)

  • Closter Police Department

  • Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force (including officers from Norwood, Washington Township, and Woodcliff Lake).
