Norwood NJ, A sudden surge in low-flying aircraft activity and disruptive engine noise has taken over the skies above Norwood, New Jersey. Responding to a flood of complaints from frustrated local residents, Mayor James P. Barsa has launched a formal pushback against federal and regional aviation authorities to address the growing impact on the community’s quality of life.

The issue—which residents note is particularly severe during peaceful early morning and late evening hours—has prompted municipal leaders to escalate the situation to state and federal lawmakers.

Norwood Takes Action: Formal Complaints Filed

While local municipalities hold zero legal authority over federal airspace regulations, Mayor Barsa confirmed he has formally filed complaints and requested investigations into recent flight pattern shifts.

The borough has officially lodged inquiries with the primary agencies overseeing regional air traffic management, including:

  • The FAA’s Aviation Noise Complaint and Inquiry Portal

  • The Port Authority’s Aircraft Noise Office

  • The Noise Abatement Offices for both Teterboro Airport (TEB) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)

Expanding the Fight: Reaching Out to Lawmakers

To bring legislative muscle to the issue, Norwood officials have contacted higher-level district representatives to demand federal oversight and intervention, including:

  • Congressman Josh Gottheimer

  • State Senator Holly Schepisi

  • Bergen County Ombudsman Joy Shea

“We are actively seeking answers regarding the recent flight patterns affecting our community,” Mayor Barsa stated. “We remain committed to ensuring that the concerns of our residents are heard by the agencies responsible for managing air traffic operations.”

How Norwood Residents Can File an Aircraft Noise Complaint

Aviation authorities rely heavily on data metrics to alter flight paths or enforce noise reduction protocols. Mayor Barsa is strongly encouraging all affected Norwood residents to document and report every single instance of excessive noise.

If your sleep or quality of life is being impacted, use these official communication channels to file your report immediately:

Agency / Portal Contact Information / Link
FAA Complaint Portal FAA Aviation Noise Portal
Port Authority Noise Form PANYNJ Online Noise Complaint Form
Newark Airport Hotline 1-800-225-1071 (Port Authority Noise Hotline)
Teterboro Airport Noise Office 201-393-0399 or via email at noiseoffice@teb.com

The borough will continue to monitor flight data and provide official updates as federal agencies respond to the outstanding complaints.

  1. This is a direct result of the political pressure exerted by the residents in the Hackensack area of the large apartment complexes. Despite the airport being there long before they moved there they have been chronic complainers about Teterboro. So the FAA spent millions on studies and in order to appease the political pressure (Josh signed on with them) there was a new additional instrument approach GPS to runway 19. Air traffic control then has accompanying arrival routes that shifted air traffic from the prior routes while ‘feeding’ that approach.

  2. Just an FYI, complaints filed with laser pointers will take top priority over your sternly worded letters.
