RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The Ridgewood Police Department welcomed a brand-new leader to its ranks last Friday. Ryan Konzelmann, a fourth-grade student at Ridge Elementary School, was officially recognized and sworn in as the village’s Honorary Chief for a Day.
The special event, organized in partnership with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, provided an unforgettable, behind-the-scenes look at local and county law enforcement for a very deserving local student.
A Chief’s Welcome at Village Hall
Chief Ryan’s big day started with a first-class escort. Police officers picked him up directly from his home and transported him to Village Hall for his official induction.
In a formal ceremony, Deputy Mayor Pamela Perron stepped forward to officially swear Ryan into office. Following his swearing-in, the newly minted Chief went on an exclusive tour of the Ridgewood Police Department headquarters to see how the village’s daily operations run.
The excitement continued as Chief Ryan traveled to Ridge Elementary School, where an enthusiastic crowd of his fellow fourth-grade classmates greeted him with a hero’s welcome.
Exploring SWAT, Bomb Squads, and K-9 Units
After celebrating with his peers at Ridge School, Ryan’s itinerary took him to the Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack. There, he joined fellow Honorary Chiefs from across Bergen County for an afternoon of hands-on exploration.
The young leaders were given rare access to specialized law enforcement equipment and high-tech tactical vehicles, including:
-
SWAT Team transport vehicles
-
Bomb Squad safety gear and trucks
-
An interactive K-9 Unit demonstration
A Celebration to Remember
To wrap up a thrilling day on duty, Chief Ryan and his fellow honorary law enforcement leaders traveled to Space Events in Englewood. The kids were treated to a special lunch and a formal recognition ceremony celebrating their participation in the program.
The Ridgewood Police Department expressed immense pride in participating in the annual program, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to creating meaningful, life-changing experiences for local children and their families. Department officials extended their gratitude to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for planning and executing the memorable county-wide event.
Congratulations to Honorary Chief Ryan Konzelmann on a job well done!
