HAWTHORNE, NJ — A violent Tuesday afternoon collision left one person injured and caused major infrastructure damage near a busy Hawthorne intersection.

On June 23, 2026, emergency crews responded to a serious single-vehicle accident near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Van Winkle Avenue. According to the Hawthorne Police Department, the driver of a white Chevrolet pickup truck lost control and slammed head-on into two separate utility poles.

Driver Hospitalized, Infrastructure ‘Obliterated’

The impact of the crash was severe enough to completely obliterate one utility pole and heavily damage a second.

An ambulance from The Valley Hospital arrived quickly on the scene, treating the pickup driver for non-life-threatening injuries before transporting them to the hospital’s emergency room for further medical care.

Multi-Agency Emergency Response

The crash triggered a swift, coordinated response from local first responders:

  • Fire & Rescue: Firefighters from Hawthorne Fire Department’s Engine Company #1 and Rescue Company #5 rushed to secure the scene. Crews successfully disconnected the truck’s battery to prevent a fire hazard and managed a significant fluid spill resulting from the impact.

  • Law Enforcement: Officers from both the Hawthorne Police Department and the Glen Rock Police Department managed traffic control and initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Major Traffic Delays Expected on Lincoln Ave

Commuters are advised to avoid the area if possible. Southbound Lincoln Avenue near the crash site is expected to remain closed for an extended period. Utility crews are currently on-site working to replace the destroyed pole and safely restore any disrupted local infrastructure.
