Bergen County Recognizes Navy Veteran and Fire Chief James Zaconie as Veteran of the Month

Westwood NJ, At a recent Commissioner Public Meeting, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco officially honored James Zaconie as the county’s August Veteran of the Month, celebrating his life devoted to military duty and local emergency response.

“We are grateful to Mr. Zaconie for his service to our nation and our communities,” County Executive Jim Tedesco shared. “Congratulations, and welcome home!”

A Legacy of National and Local Service

James Zaconie’s commitment to public safety and service spans nearly six decades across Northern New Jersey:

• Military Service: Shortly after graduating from Westwood High School in 1966, Zaconie enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country during a critical era.

• Decades in Local Fire Service: Following his military discharge, he transitioned seamlessly into protecting local communities as a dedicated firefighter.

• Fire Department Leadership: Zaconie served with Garfield Fire Company No. 4 and Mahwah Fire Company No. 2, eventually rising to serve as Fire Chief in Washington Township.

Bergen County routinely highlights community members who have served in the armed forces, and Chief Zaconie’s lifetime of selfless dedication stands out as an inspiration across the Garden State.
