RIDGEWOOD, NJ — As the new school year kicks off across the Village of Ridgewood, officers from Ridgewood PBA Local #20 were out at Travell Elementary School to extend their warmest wishes and share essential safety reminders for the community.
With students, teachers, and staff returning to the classroom, local law enforcement is reminding residents that back-to-school season brings increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic throughout school zones.
Essential School Zone Safety Reminders
To ensure a safe, smooth transition back into the daily school routine, Ridgewood PBA Local #20 asks all motorists and community members to keep the following safety practices in mind:

Slow Down in School Zones: Watch posted speed limits near all local elementary, middle, and high schools.

Stay Alert at Crosswalks: Pay close attention to crossing guards and yield to students and parents walking or biking to school.

Avoid Distracted Driving: Keep phones put away and eyes on the road during busy morning drop-off and afternoon pickup times.

Use Extra Caution in Neighborhoods: Be mindful of children stepping off sidewalks or walking between parked vehicles.

Instead of law enforcement reminding residents, how about some police presence in school zones during drop off and pick up times? I live on a street near 2 schools and the speeding (by parents) is egregious, and daily. A few tickets being issued may change the behavior.
