HAWTHORNE, NJ — A afternoon drive turned dangerous on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when a three-vehicle chain-reaction collision slowed traffic for miles along Route 208 northbound near Grandview Avenue.
Emergency response teams from multiple neighboring towns were dispatched to the scene to assist victims and manage traffic flow.

Details of the Collision and Medical Response
The multi-vehicle accident resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to four individuals, including a grandmother and two of her young grandchildren.
-
Victims Hospitalized: First responders transported all four injured individuals to The Valley Hospital in Paramus for treatment and evaluation.
-
Emergency Personnel On Scene: Responding agencies included the Hawthorne Police Department, Wyckoff Police Department, Hawthorne EMS, and the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
-
Vehicle Towing & Site Clearance: Tow trucks were dispatched to remove at least two heavily damaged vehicles from the roadway.
Severe Traffic Delays on Route 208 North
As emergency crews worked to treat victims and clear vehicle debris, Route 208 northbound was restricted to a single left travel lane. The lane closure created significant gridlock, backing up traffic for miles through the area during the afternoon commute.
The roadway was fully reopened following vehicle removal and site clearance.
