Bergen County Honors Wallington Resident Michael Perry as September Veteran of the Month

Wallington, NJ – At a recent Bergen County Board of Commissioners Public Meeting, County Executive Jim Tedesco and local officials proudly named Michael Perry of Wallington, NJ, as the September Veteran of the Month.
The award recognizes Perry’s extraordinary dedication to public safety and military service, spanning decades across global deployments, statewide defense, and local law enforcement.
From Marine Deployments to New Jersey National Guard
Michael Perry’s military career began in 1994 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his service as a Marine, Perry deployed to multiple countries around the globe in defense of the nation.
Following his honorably completed service with the USMC, Perry returned to New Jersey and chose to continue his military commitment by joining the New Jersey National Guard, serving his local state and country during times of need.
A Distinguished Career in Law Enforcement
After completing his military assignments, Perry transitioned into a career dedicated to community protection, building an impactful career in law enforcement:

Specialized Detail: Served as a juvenile detective, addressing youth outreach and public safety.

School Resource Officer (SRO): Protected local schools and mentored young students within the community.

Tactical Response: Served as a key member of the S.W.A.T. team, handling high-risk tactical situations.
Continued Service in Wallington
Even after retiring from full-time law enforcement duties, Perry remains active in public safety. He currently serves the Borough of Wallington as a Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) with the Wallington Police Department.
