RIDGEWOOD — Parking could soon become tougher to find for Ridgewood High School seniors.
The Village Council last week introduced an ordinance that would designate 23 spaces along Heermance Place as “permit only” spots while school is in session.
Permits for those spaces would be provided to the school’s teachers and staff, village officials said at a recent council meeting.
At present, the 23 spaces are used mainly by high school seniors who drive to classes, officials said.
The ordinance was introduced by the governing body despite lingering questions over who exactly owns the land occupied by the 23 spaces — the village or the school district.
At last week’s council meeting, village resident Boyd Loving questioned whether it was “appropriate” to introduce the ordinance when “this question of ownership” still needed to be clarified.

First come first served, let the teachers park at Graydon and walk just like the students.
Talk about a 180. For years we’ve had open warfare between Village Hall and the BOE and now we’re giving away what might be Village land. Pretty funny that no one even knows who actually owns the property the spaces are on. I would assume that the BOE will now be responsible for maintenance, (snow removal) and repairs?
Going back to the 90’s when Chief mader and Captain Corcoran were working there was a controversey over parking at the high school. Pat Mancuso was the mayor a group of students showed up at the concil meeting and voiced their opinon about the ordinance that was proposed, one of the questions raised was who owned Heermance Place. The question was researched and it was proven the village owned the the street and was responsible for traffic enforcement, snow removal and surface maintenance. I’m sure a check of the ridgewood news archives would shoe the reults of that incident..
