The Ridgewood Council defeated an ordinance that would have handed over the 23 parking spaces on Heermance Place to the Board of Education. The village will, however, revisit the issue sooner rather than later, officials said.

School district officials called for a change in their request that the village convert the spots on the municipally owned street into permit parking spaces. Permits are expected to be issued to Ridgewood High School faculty and staff.

The change, which would impact effective hours, was deemed “substantive” by Village Attorney Matt Rogers, who advised the council to defeat |the previously introduced ordinance and return with an updated version.

  1. Let the teachers park at Graydon and walk just like the students. Start with the superintendent of schools, this is a public street first come first served.

  2. Watching this Council it is easy to see where things are going to go. The Council and the BOE have in the recent past been engaged in open warfare which was not good for anyone. This Council is trying to build a relationship with the BOE which is fine but giving up a taxpayer asset to the BOE when there are alternatives available is a big mistake. The precedent this is going to set will come back to haunt us. On the positive side, if the 4 multi-family high rises get green lighted no one will be able to even get to the HS let alone park there. Add the fact that Valley patiently (pun intended) waited for the Council to turn over and will now unveil their “Renewed Renewel” to the list of proposed developments makes this Council perhaps the most influential group of individuals in the history of Ridgewood.

The fact that they have shown how well they all work together and respect each other’s opinions and have such faith in the Village Manager who actually runs things should give us all great comfort as we move forward in becoming North Hackensack.

  3. It will no longer be the same Ridgewood we know and love. Why even bother to have a master plan when it can be amended by variances and zoning changes by any developer with a plan to make big money? There go our property values.

  4. so since we are on the talks about parking. so how much did boy take from the meter money. we all know that was big money right. we all wonder if that amount will ever come out. or will they sweep it under village hall. we all herd he had a nick name at the bank. ( coin boy ) . they should get this bum and do litter pick up for ten years. and clean all bathrooms too.

  5. Mayor Paul Aronsohn. ( Vote for me and I will let you park for free)
