I am not surprised at this sad incident. People in Ridgewood and most in NJ are driving like loons.
Are you aware of just how many near hits there are just in Ridgewood? It’s insane.
Go for a walk at an intersection in Ridgewood. You’ll be taking your life into your own hands. This yield to pedestrians is so not working.
It’s bad. People driving, act like the school zones and crossing guards are in their way?
Ridgewood Police, need to go plain clothes and nail these idiots. How about rotate from school zone to school zone in the mornings and afternoons? is there anything more important than the children in the school zones…please put this at the top of your need to do list! Someone please get this message to the Ridgewood Police
The crosswalk law is one of the hardest ever. Cops have to stop cell phones, texting first. Now the town wants to put up signs at the intersections.Great! People will now talk and text and look at signs. That should really help the person crossing. Lets write some tickets over and over again to get the message out. The parking meter men write tickets over and over with no problem.Chief Ward. write them up.
the main problem is that most people just walk out into the road, you can not and should not do that. in the am the kids look at the ground and do not look at any thing else. how the hell can any one just stop when you have some one run into the cross walk. this law is not working. I don’t know who came up with this shit. when i was a kid my mom and dad all ways said to me you stop and look both ways and see if it is safe.and then walk. people need to wake up.yes some drivers need to slow down in the c b d. the worst drivers are the dam n j bus’es that fly in and out of the c b d. the cops need to be on the walk and stop parking in the park . get out of the dam car and walk like years a go. they don’t need to be in a cop car all day long.in ny they walk. in the 70,s and 80,s they walk in the c b d. we need one on one. put on a horse. they make a lot of money to be a cop in ridgewood, it’s a real safe town they can walk around in the rain or heat. come on. the poor garbage man who takes my cans do it every day. and they make half of a cop and work a lot harder.

So…if the cops are out of the car walking in the CBD..How is that gonna stop people who are driving and texting? Or talking on the phone? Are they supposed to run after the car?? Your a fool!!! The days of “walking the beat” are over. You want a cop walking, tell the council to hire more cops.
Police which seem to be rarely seen in cbd should give tickets to some of the idiotic mothers and fathers with children in tow crossing a street where ever they choose. I believe that you can be ticked for not using a crosswalk.
