Ridgewood Water customers have been granted a longer-than-usual payment deadline extension, a move that utility officials believe will assist residents who were impacted by a recent billing interruption.
A computer software upgrade at the village’s water company was cited for the delay of mailed invoices covering the first three months of 2013. The software change was discussed and planned last year, but the initial switch did not go as expected.
Prior to the changes, the water department used the same billing service for approximately 13 years without any upgrades, explained David Scheibner, Ridgewood Water’s business director. The upgrades prepared last year by the service provider were “actually welcomed news” and “we were looking forward to the new improvements,” he said.
“The fact of reality was it was not the improvement we were expecting. And since the contract with that service was up at the end of [2012], we went through the process of finding a new provider,” Scheibner added. “So there was a period of time when we didn’t have a system.”
