Some Ridgewood residents claim they were blindsided when PSE&G crews showed up in their neighborhoods earlier this month and began installing new utility poles that – at 65 feet high – appear twice as tall as some of the existing poles.

To compound the problem, homeowners on Spring Avenue and Hope Street are equally angered and worried because the new poles will be outfitted with power lines carrying as much as 69,000 volts of electricity. In comparison, most electrical wires that run through residential areas transmit 13,000 volts.

Those residents, many of whom have mobilized to form a community action group dubbed ICARE (Individuals Concerned About Residential Electricity), are now calling on the village’s elected officials to intervene, with several dozen of them petitioning the Ridgewood Council for help last week.

  1. This was not an easy fight to begin with.
PS&G co Attorneys will provide their legal position and the Village will find very little space to respond.

The next Village Council meeting will clarify what can or can not be done to stop the final installation of these poles. I recommend that any attempt to repeat the loud noisy response of the last meeting will fall on deaf ears.

  2. To win this battle you need passion (OK…got that)

AND facts – research needs to be done on laws, precedents, etc in ALL areas… environmental impact, health issues, master plan restrictions, etc, etc, etc.
(…seem to be light in this area)
