Frank Del Vecchio, plans to run for Ridgewood Village Council in the Spring of 2014.

Ridgewood resident Frank Del Vecchio, who is the police chief of Fairview, NJ, was overheard telling members of the crowd greeting Cory Booker at Starbucks on Friday that he, Del Vecchio, plans to run for Ridgewood Village Council in the Spring of 2014.

Chief Del Vecchio was the Democratic candidate for NJ State Assembly, District 40 in 1999 and 2001. He lost both elections to incumbent Republican candidates. He planned to run for Ridgewood Village Council in 2008, but did not submit required voter petitions prior to the established deadline.

Del Vecchio is a significant contributor to the Bergen County Democratic Organization and is viewed as being a strong political ally of Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn.

In the summer of 2011 it was revealed that while serving as Fairview’s Deputy Police Chief, Del Vecchio was “moonlighting” as the $250K per year CEO of a not for profit organization that later shuttered when its founder was indicted by the State of NJ for theft.

Despite the controversy surrounding his not for profit job, Del Vecchio was promoted to Fairview’s police chief in December of 2010.

The Del Vecchio family has resided on Walthery Avenue since September of 2003.

  1. Ridgewood should change to a partisan form of local government. It was not appropriate for MAYOR Aronsohn to welcome Candidate Booker to Ridgewood. Paul Aronsohn, yes, but mayor no. Booker holds office in a city, not state-wide. Can’t wait for Lonegan to come to town. Maybe Mayor Aronsohn will welcome him too(dubious)!

  2. Why not? He went to the governor’s fundraiser. He goes to temple and church. He is all things to all people…not.

  3. Go, Frank, go!

    He’s a good man.

  4. He is a good man and a man who will always do the right thing. Go Frank!

  5. What seat will be open?

  6. Is Frank eligible to run for office if he does not resign his police dept. office first……….. ?

  7. Just in time for police union negotiations in 2015. So much for the tiger team.

  8. Frank is a big fish in a little pond. Cut the non-partisan BS. He’s a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat and has never been shy to show his political aspirations since running unsuccessfully 10 years ago.

I hope that people who wish to serve village residents versus — USE village residents as a resume builder step up to the plate.

    We don’t need a another Paul-ite.

  9. I am afraid to have Frank and Ahronson on the same council. I would love to replace Ahronson and the other two. We cannot afford to lose Walsh and Richie.

  10. A friend of mine who works for the state of nj told me because rwd practices non partisan politics we miss out on grant money and allocations from steering committees. Maybe it’s time to change things up.

  11. Didn’t we already have a former cop as a mayor a few years ago? It behooves the residents to elect someone who knows what its like to make a payroll and run a business. When you are a career public sector employee, you expect annual raises, never dealt with an ‘economic slowdown’ or anything else that is reality.

  12. I’d love to see a showdown between Walsh and Del Vecchio!

  13. #12 Del V loses. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

  14. No offense to Mr. Del Vecchio since I don’t know him, but since when do you have to be “the sharpest knife in the drawer?” We have some good people in this who want to keep it a good place to live. If he is one of them then more power to him.

  15. Frank, Frank, Frank……..”The Rockaway Township offices of the business once known as AMBER Ready Inc. are shuttered and its founder is under state indictment on theft charges. Federal authorities have questioned former employees, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office has subpoenaed its investment bank for documents. DelVecchio, who was Fairview’s deputy chief during his time with AMBER Ready, has little to say about the business — which sold a wireless technology designed to aid in the recovery of missing kids — or how he juggled his role as a high-ranking public servant with the demands of running a company that was trying to go public. “I’m no longer affiliated with the company so I really don’t care to comment,” said DelVecchio, who said he resigned his position in November. But when asked during a deposition last year if his job with AMBER Ready was full time, he responded: “It seems as full time as anything else.” – See more at: https://www.northjersey.com/news/125282388_Deputy_chief_juggled_two_jobs.html#sthash.3TmmjelW.dpuf

The site above might be of note for those who will soon have to vote on the Chief. It will be interesting to see his supporters reconcile some concepts–amply documented–with what is sure to be ample rhetoric. For example: Is the chief A) a committed public servant? B) Does he conduct himself with the public interest in mind at all times? C) Does he associate himself with ethical people? D) Is he capable of personal sacrifice? E) Is he an ethical and truthful man, even if there is some pain to be had?

The story makes some things very clear for Ridgewood voters, almost painfully so.
