Ridgewood Police Issue Residential Diversion Theft Alert

Ridgewood NJ, On November 22, 2013 a Highwood Avenue resident reported that she had a male party come to her door claiming to be from gas and Water Company. He advised her that she should have received notice of an appointment to check her water and gas lines. The victim allowed him into the home. The male then distracted the victim having her check the water in the kitchen and he went upstairs and removed jewelry in a pillow case. The actor is described as a white or Hispanic male, 20-30 years old 5’9” with slight beard, wearing a white hard hat and safety vest. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

  1. Common sense would dictate if you do not recognize the imposter as your regular meter reader, check the id, tell them you are calling PSEG to check.
    OR if you think its legit at least watch them when they are in the building.

  2. Common sense would dictate that meters should be read automatically without the need for anyone needing to come to the home. Does PSE&G use the same technology firm as Healthcare.gov?
