Ridgewood NJ, According to the Village Hall website ,”Due to the heavy drop of leaves we are currently running about 4 days behind schedule. Right now we are in Area D and will finish by Monday. We will begin Area A on Tuesday, November 26th and continue until after Thanksgiving. We will not get to Area B before Thanksgiving.”

So we decided to take a ride around the Village and see for our self’s .  And yes no surprise but the leaves piles towered over our car  and work crews were hard at working playing catch up .

  1. Nice excuse. Its a fact that we lost HUNDREDS of trees and thousands of branches.
    A reasonable conclusion=few leaves.
Dry summer. no rain. Fewer leaves.
More excuses for a lousy job.

  2. Thanks for the laugh this morning, I needed it.
The “Village’ lost hundreds of trees due to ‘Superstorm Sandy’.
Homeowners lost hundreds of trees due to the same.
We all lost thousands of branches.
We had a dry season so trees didn’t exactly get ‘leafy’.
None of my trees had incremental growth, which is where leaves grow.
If the street department spent more time doing their job and less time coming up with bullshit press releases, the leaves might have been removed on schedule.

  3. to # 1 and 2 , you don’t have all the right info my little flower, do you know that the street & park’s dept lost 15 workers from fema that they had for two years. and a few workers have retired and no one has been replaced. so that is part of the back log in work. plus the street dept only workerd one sataurday, in the past they worked 4 to 5 saturdays, and some years a sunday. the dept can not do the same amount of work with less workers.the mayor and council need to hire workers. in the parks dept they are down to 4 workers, they had 10. streets are down to 7, they had 15 in 2009. this town only hire’s in the police and fire dept’s in the past 2 years. it’s all on record. this is no bullshit press releases, it;s just the facts. go to village hall and look it up your self. the ridgewood news, the blog, the patch know all about this. this has been going on for years now. you never seen it because fems stepped in with 15 workers to help out, and it was all free labor for the village. so to # 1 it’s no excuse or to # 2 a b s story call the mayor like i did you and i pay taxes for workers and they are not replacing any one that leaves.some times with a part timer, but they don;t last for long.
thank you your tax info man.

  4. looks like a lot of leaves to me

  5. Well # 3 when you called the Mayor what did he say. Would share the conservation with us?

  6. well it,s leaf time.why is it all other towns work on weekends but in the village no one is. in the past streets and parks worked. we had warm weather for oct—nov–all crews should of been working. what would of happen if we got a real big storm.the top managers are screwing around with the over time.if they don’t spend it they look good. not this year.and why is the street dept down to 7 workers. how come the village is not replacing them.the village top people think they can do the same amount of work with less. it,s not happening. I’m in town for over 40 years stop the bull shit and rehire people.some said to me in village hall that 2 workers left yhe job last week. 1 full timer, and 1 part timer.so we have open slots.

  7. Don’t hire anyone. I like the 0% tax increase our Mayor gave us.

To # 3 my wilted flower,
I simply look out the window from my home office to see what ISNT going on.
The street department missed 2 scheduled area B pickups out of 3. They only did the first. That my wilted flower is a fact.
If you are just an employee, then don’t make excuses for your boss who is responsible for the job that has not been done.
I pay my taxes and expect the services.
If the street dept cannot do it, then its time to get rid of everyone and hire a contractor.
The contractor plows the snow very well and I’m sure they would do a better job on the leaves…and cheaper.

  9. With all the issues facing town all you people can do is complain about LEAVES? Hoe about holding ou Council accountable for being bribed by special interest groups that want to pave us over? Valley, Saraceno, Bolger? Leaves? Really?

  10. There used to be 24 street dept. workers now there are 7 do you REALLY expect the same level of service? Come on be realistic the town will not pay OT for longer hours so we are stuck with what we get! privatization was researched but was cost prohibitive. There have been numerous complaints about the personnel who plow snow but the town has no control over who a sub contractor hires.

  11. I have been a resident since 1969.
I am quite tired of hearing this bullshit about ‘expect the same level of service’, whether its the police dept, street dept, or the biggest waste of $$…the board of education.
My taxes have gone up EXPONENTIALLY while the service has DECLINED from every department.
Ridgewood is not what it used to be.
The overly generous benefits, salaries, and retirements for the village employees have pushed the taxes to ridiculous levels while service declines.
There is a limit to be paid for unskilled labor. And we are beyond it.. PRIVATIZE and get the low bidder. Its not brain surgery to plow snow, pickup leaves, or fill potholes.
People take government jobs for SECURITY, medical benefits, and retirement, with the expectation of wages less than the private sector. Now that the folks who rolled over when negotiating pay and benefits put the screws to the taxpayers, the wages exceed the private sector as well. Its unsustainable, just like Detroit.

  12. #10 makes reference to fewer street department workers.
Perhaps those salaries were transferred over to recycling.
Every time I go to the recycling center there seem to be quite a few employees there. All of them nice and polite, but when we had 24 on the street there were none in recycling. (or sanitation) We used to have the garbage picked up by Marangi Bros (pvt contractor) till there was a big union strike. after which the Village decided to buy their own equipment. Why not have the garbage men, who drive trucks, help with the leaf pickup when they are not assigned to a route… OR when they finish their route early. Also, using the recycling dept employees would make sense.

  13. Yes Privatize.
How many former public employees are living in FL or AZ, 30,40 or 50 years after “retirement” while our taxes go through the roof?
The Public sector model is broken due to overly generous promises made by past administrators who have also retired in the sun belt.

  14. hey jerk off did you eat to much turkey. your tax;s are hire becuse you have a paid fire dept. do you know the amount of to the police and fire depts spend, close to a mill, jerky.and thats ok. they put all the work out to bid and the village still came under, so jerky get your info in order. you must be drinking the turkey fat grease.and yes the b o e is one scam in a half. all other towns are out on saturdays picking up leaves. but not ridgewood, it would of bin real funny if this past storm cam and hit the village with a foot of snow.

  15. you know what is real bad. the new manager is reading the blog, the patch, the ridgewood news, and he or she , well I know who it is, but thats for me to know and you to find out. the top dogs who are screwing up a lot of shit in town should watch them self. this is on them. they should stop gabbling on leaf pick up. the village crews have been doing this since 1960;s, with no problems , but now with more then half of the crew gone and no week ends, well what the fuck do you think is going to happen, less leaves will be picked up. some one or it looks to many of us that if the top managers don’t work over time they are getting a some kind of bouns, of some sort. they think we are dumb. the police and fire dept’s are good people, but and i do mean but. they have big overtime spending every year.if some one thinks this is bull shit, well look it up. it;s all on record in the hall.I;m in town since 1965 so stop the bull shit and rehire workers and give them the saturdays like they been getting since 1960;s .I have full reports from an old boss that worked in town for 37 years.so you can not bs me or any one else.some may not like that I have info on it all so don;t play with me.or I will take it to the press,

  16. this is fuckin great, way better then any t v show.to to #13 who are you talking about the fire and police and top managers.

  17. F E M A F E M A—————–YES THE VILLAGE GOT 15 FREE WORKERS FROM THE FED’S FOR TWO YEARS. YES I DID SAY FREE.

    ( 1 5 ) YES 15 WHAT, WELL YES FREE.
WOW, NOW THAT CHANGES EVERY THING DON’T IT.

    YES IT WILL.

    MY GOD. 15.

    FREE.

YES FREE. FREE LABOR. WHAT THE HELL DID THAT SAVE THE VILLAGE . WELL 15 BUCKS AN HOUR TIMES 40. WELL , DO THE MATH BIG MONEY HONEY.
