Vast Majority Do Not Believe US Will Defeat ISIS

Vast Majority Do Not Believe US Will Defeat ISISNearly 70% of Americans surveyed do not believe the United States will succeed in wiping out Islamic State (ISIS) militants, according to a new NBC News/WS-J/Annenberg poll.

According to the poll, 68% have “very little” or “just some” confidence in US President Barack Hussein Obama’s goal of eliminating the threat of ISIS. Just 28% had “a great deal” or “quite a bit” of confidence in Mr. Obama’s goals.

62% say they support the used of air power against ISIS in Syria as laid out by the president in last Wednesday’s prime time address to the nation, 22% oppose the plan.

“The bottom line: The president has made his case to the American public, and like other presidents who faced war and peace issues, support usually follows,” Democratic pollster Peter Hart said of the survey he helped conduct. “The difference in this military encounter is that, right out of the box, Americans are skeptical if this will work.”

The poll showed that just 38% of Americans think Mr. Obama is doing an effective job on foreign policy.

A poll from last week showed that 65% think action against ISIS is in America’s interest. That number rose to 68% after some of those polled were re-contacted after Mr. Obama’s speech.

  1. Not a chance that Barry will be able to eliminate them with airstrikes alone.
This group was ignored for too long and now they have become a problem that needs to be dealt with immediately.
Nobody likes war, but as we saw in the past, these terrorists will bring it here to our soil if we do not eliminate them first.

  2. Nations in the middle east should be taking the lead on this…..and that includes Israel.

Israel does more than the rest of those arabs combined.
They always have, and always will.
They do plenty of our dirty work for us too.
They are the ONLY ally we have there.
The Arabs do whats good for them.
And as to your suggestion, if Israel ‘took the lead’ those Arabs would have NOTHING to do with the coalition since they are a bunch of racist #*#) .

Israel invariably wants to get involved in these actions but is talked out of it by the US. Their involvement would create enormous problems in the region.

  5. Impossible to defeat a guerrilla army. Refer to Viet Nam if this concept is not clear.

    So true.
Same with the ‘insurgents’ in Iraq with their IED’s that kept killing and maiming our solders.
Solution: One big mushroom cloud leaving a nice glass dish of that area.

  7. Not impossible to defeat a guerrilla army. Refer to the surge in Iraq. But withdrawing U.S. troops before Iraq’s new government was ready to stand on its own militarily made this crisis possible. And Obama did that solely to score political points with his base. More Americans will end up dying just so Obama could say he “ended” the Iraq war. And remember, Biden once called Iraq one of Obama’s “Great Achievements” — just like Obamacare.

  8. #7 – yup, reminds me of “Mission Accomplished”.

The Cradle of Civilization is not very civilized.

According to Robert Gates, Biden was wrong on just about every issue he opined on.

  10. Prediction: Hillary will say that she is in favor of Obama’s new war in Iraq, then later change her mind and decide that she is against it (all while continuing to blame Bush and forgetting that she and Obama withdrew from Iraq prematurely thus creating the situation in Iraq). Then, when she becomes President and the call comes in again at 3 a.m. (not from Bengazi this time) alerting her to the fact that Americans are in danger, she will rise to the occassion this time. “Trust us” says the old media establishment, besides, if you vote for anyone else you are a sexist, homophobe (wait is Hillary gay, bi-sexual, or not), racisist (afterall she was married to the guy who used to be know as the “first black president” before Obama came along), or just plain stupid because, well, it is settled science (just like global warming, or cooling, or “climate change”) that anyone who does not vote democrat is stupid.

“Mission Accomplished” was meant to be a nice gesture by the captain of the ship TO GWB – the commander in Chief – after a successful military operation. “Mission Accomplished” was not of GWB’s own action and was never designed to gain political points.
This was a non-story that was seized upon, contorted and inflated by the press to make GWB look bad.

Obama was the driving force behind pulling the troops out of Iraq with the sole politically motivated purpose of satisfying his base and a petty attempt to embarrass/discredit GWB by reversing his policy.

    Big difference.

Ironically Obama’s attempt to discredit Bush’s Iraq police has only served to validate it.

  12. Correction #10: Sorry, meant, “she again won’t rise to the occassion.”

  13. #3….just how is having Israel as an “ally” working out for us?
