Whether you like it or not, bagging leaves may soon become a reality
As noted in this news article about neighboring Glen Rock, a “higher power” government is soon likely to prohibit dumping of leaves in the curb.

What a joke.
I have 14 large oaks on the small property that would generate 100 bags a week.
I’ll ask the town to remove THEIR 3 massive oaks that generate leaves, and I’ll cut down the other 11 for firewood.
If you want the town to look like Arizona, then you shall see what it looks like with no trees.
Of course we won’t need the DPW with its highly paid supervisors , employees, and equipment, so we can lay them off and reduce taxes too.
Be careful with these stupid proposals.
“It would also help to keep leaves out of the storm water system, which is also an environmental problem,”
So, if the storm water drains to the rivers, are we to assume that the thousands of trees that line the Saddle River, Ho-Ho-Kus Brook, etc, should be cut down too because they ‘pollute’ the waterways?
Number 1 is correct. People will take down their trees rather than bag and workers will be laid off. Good thinking.
#2
Bagging leaves will not prevent them from getting into the storm water system. Without even putting leaves in the street, there still tons blowing all over the streets.
Can I also cut down my neighbors trees? I clean about 60 bags worth of oak leaves every year and I don’t have an oak tree that I own on my property.
Even if every single homeowner bagged every single one of his/her leaves, there would still be a massive amount of leaves in the streets that come from Village trees and other assorted non-home trees.
The reality of such a new ordinance is that it would be impossible to enforce. Many people simply won’t or can’t comply, due to laziness, old age, half-hearted efforts, etc. If the Village tried to issue tickets to non-compliers, the homeowner would simply insist that the leaves in the street are not his/hers, and that they blew there from elsewhere.
Here’s a thought……leave the leaves right where they fall. Lots of other states / towns do it through out the country….
Never happen.
yea ok , good luck, let other towns do it first that has the same amount of leaves that we do. and to# 2 piss up a rope. what about when the bags rip open. and shit head what about when the leaves fall from a tree next to a brook, are you smoking dog shit.
and what high power , glenrock is not.
Good point, #1. Ridgewood, in particular among fully developed communities in Northeast New Jersey, is friendly territory for deciduous trees. The village benefits immensely from their presence in such numbers, with such strong trunks and great height testifying to their dignity and witness to so many human generations. I’d hate to think we’d agree to anything that would put that tradition at risk. Folks with large properties and extensive copses of oaks would be most disadvantaged, much to the risk of such trees. Those big oaks are so awesome, and Oak street such a treasure, particularly between Franklin and Linwood. BTW, and FWIW, are their any walnut trees left on Walnut street?
This dictatorial attitude in glen rock and ridgewood has to stop.We pay the taxes they work for us.
0% tax increase = bag leafs
When are you douchbags going to stop equating everything with a tax increase?
Picking up leaves isn’t a big deal to do.
This year, under the direction of our new manager it was actually done without the usual mess.
We saw a sweeper following the front end loaders, and leaf rakers.
Its quite apparent that whoever the supervisors that allowed the sloppy work in the past were told to toe the line this year.
Do you idiots think a tax increase means someone finally doing the job they are paid to do???
It’s not that simple. The problem is, a significant portion of that tax money goes in theft, mismanagement, stupid surveys, cronyism, and all the other stupid things that go with the civil service managing public funds.
to # 13 this is not new. they all ways did that. they just stop’ed in the past few years because of workers. this year the town paid downs tree service to do my sec in area (b ), and they did not sweep in my sec. the village picked up leaves in sec’s a c and in d , and yes in those sec’s the town workers swept up . but not in my sec. 65 grand to downs is a lot and no sweeping, and to boot it more the village cut out about 15 roads in sec b for downs, so get the info right.and for 0 tax rate is not good for the town, it’s only good for the mayor , it’s a bull shit scam. because down the road you and I will be hit hard, and they will all be gone. I’m in town for 35 yeas I see a lot of bull shit from the mayor and council, but now we have a manager that is the new yes mommy. thanks benny
They bag them in Montclair.
Let be civil #13 &15.
Miss that OT boys ? Well maybe they will farm out all the snowplowing. Then you DPW workers will have to get a second job at Bottle King.
Anonymous said, you DPW workers will have to get a second job at Bottle King.
If I did get a second job at Bottle King they would most likely fire your lazy ass once I got there.
Once again, the public sector fails to perform, so the burden of its ineptitude falls on the private sector……
Yea, we all remember how well the private sector performed in 2008 causing the collapse of the financial system, and the burden of that ineptitude fell on the public sector……
They want you to forget about that #21.
That is the MSNBC version of the cause of the 2008 financial crisis.
That is the MSNBC version of the cause of the 2008 financial crisis
Oh really, tell me genius who packaged the worthless mortgage backed securities and sold then as viable assets to unsuspecting investors? What public employees were involved in that mess?
its called the Federal Government , might want to do a little homework before you keep talking , credit standards , Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae , some would call it the law of unanticipated consequences
You should move to Montclair then.
Another limousine liberal town, with lots of apartments in town for you too.
The financial system collapsed due to loans being made to borrowers who were unqualified.. WHY?
Because Bill Clinton mandated the lowering of standards at the government agencies (fannie may, etc) that guaranteed loans.
That way, all of his supporters (=unqualified mostly Minority borrows) could get a nothing down lown, or a no-income documentation loan.
This created a rising housing market due to demand from these unqualified borrowers who could NEVER pay a loan back.
They buy cars at the ‘buy here pay here’ joints in Paterson.
So when they couldn’t pay their mortgages, the whole house of cards collapsed.
The Private sector did their job by taking the mortgages, bundling them, and selling them as securities to investors.
Of course the politicians blamed wall street, but all wall street did was bundle/sell the securities, that were BACKED BY THE US GOVERNMENT loans.
I know its too simple for simple minds to understand, but when the GOVERNMENT gets involved in ANYTHING, they fuck it up.
lol another MSNBC moment, Glass-Steagall was repealed when Reagan was president a bit before 2008 , btw Europe never had Glass Steagall , so why then al sharpton did it take so long to happen
big words for a little man ,yes every 6th grader knows what Glass–Steagall Act is , now beside the wiki defination, do you have any idea what Glass–Steagall did or didnt do ???
Since Europe never had a Glass–Steagall Act , or separation of commercial from investment banking why did they not have Collateralized Debt Obligation melt down far sooner ?
perhaps you should revisit your history books, Reagan moved to deregulate the US economy , part of that was the steady erosion of much Glass Steagall . By the time Gramm–Leach–Bliley came along Glass Steagall was dead in all but name . All this is a nice deflection from the root cause of the 2008 melt down , to quote another poster “Bill Clinton mandated the lowering of standards at the government agencies (fannie may, etc) that guaranteed loans.” The key to debt is credit quality , the slacking of credit ratings spurred a real estate boom ,the bundling of asset backed securities and then the bust .
As for looking credible your a troll with a 100 fake IPs , your on the blog 24/7 , you appear to have no job so time get over yourself.
There is no absolute thing that caused the 2008 crash. We’ve had market crashes since there were markets. They are like hurricanes. Some are relatively mild, but once or twice in a generation, they a mind-blowingly massive. We will continue to have them, and I suspect we will have another fairly soon, although I very much doubt we will have one of the size of 2008 in our lifetime. They are just like housing, where every several years, we get a “correction”.
In my opinion, the real “cause” of the huge 2008 collapse was due to massive global speculation, where half the world got into the game of investing and real estate. Like Chuck Price said, if the music keeps playing, you have to get up and dance. The people hardest hit were the rank amateurs. They are also the ones who get hit the hardest. It’s because they also get into the game too late (buying at the top), and are the quickest to get out (selling at the bottom).
like i said sure you do ………………..
Government intervention causes booms and busts.
The real estate boom was caused by lower credit standards which allowed everyone with a pulse to qualify for a loan.
With all of these buyers, the demand increased, as did the prices, and our ‘real estate boom’ was created.
Those that got on the train early, and off before it ran off the tracks did well.
It was easy to smell the end, when your landscaper and delivery drivers were talking about flipping homes. (my fedex driver and 3others actually bought a home here in Ridgewood and flipped it)
This was not unlike the stock market bust in 2001 when the same types were telling me about their hot stock investments.
So it goes. When the government gets involved..watch your wallet because in the end its going to be painful.
Why did you bright boys leave leaves. That’s the subject. Are you too lazy to and mulch the leaves. It’s simple. With your lawn mower without the bag; or buy a mulcher lawn mover.
It’s easy, efficient and good for your lawns. But I’ve suggested this idea before and you find excuses.
“Whine, whine , I have too many leaves to mulch; so I can’t mulch any.”
If there is a buildup of mulch on lawn; it can be used in plant garden. It’s great stuff. Love your dirt , guys.
I fine with the bagged leaves – the town is welcome to come over anytime they want and bag them. Or I will just let them blow into the street – completely on their own of course.
people stop your bull shit , and start saving you money.
You must live in the Arizona part of town with no trees…the lawns.
I love leaves. and to all , no snow all towns are out cleaning leaves.
good luck, and this is all about glenrock speeding money on over time, not the clean water ,
