Remember this number: 165 . . .
For those of you who still believe that luxury apartments in Ridgewood’s Central Business District would not attract families with school aged children, this word from Board of Education officials in Edgewater regarding the number of school aged children living in the fire scorched Avalon apartment complex.
From nj.com:
“Of those displaced, school officials said Friday approximately 165 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 resided in the Avalon complex.”
Well Ridgewood BOED start making plans for redistricting and busing when the Ridgewood Council, The Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce and The Developers get done.
The Avalon in Edgewater was geared towards families. The amenities include a tot room, landscaped picnic area, and a swimming pool. The proposed developments in Ridgewood do not contain any of these features.

If you build it, they will come….the families with kids that is, the families who want to get into the school system. Who cares about a tot room picnic area, or swimming pool? This is Ridgewood where they can picnic in all our beautiful parks and there are play groups and co-op nurseries all over town for the kiddies and there in Graydon as well as the Y for swimming.
Yes, any multi-family housing in Ridgewood will definitely attract kids. Two and three in a bedroom, no problem.
Why would a family move into a two/three bedroom apartment when there are plenty of houses available for rent that are larger, have a yard, and less expensive?

No outdoor property maintenance issues with apartment living.
“No outdoor property maintenance”
That’s the point, makes sense for empty nesters and young professionals/couples.
