Yes same story every year only this is the worst. Other water companies didn’t start any restrictions til September. I’m shocked there aren’t more Posts from others and towns it services
Got my latest water bill a joke to spend the money all season then to be forced to have it die due to this restriction.
Just had spine surgery so virtually impossible for me to be out there with a hand held hose due to this.
What year or decade will this system ever be upgraded or improved so the water quality doesn’t effect us adversely?
Let’s get changes made instead of excuses for 30 years.
Dont fix an essential service – like water supply
Do build an albatros of a parking garage
Do build another turf field.
As long as we have our priorities straight…
Ridgewood has been “built out” for at least 50 years.
It’s not like we had a new development of homes that required new gas, water, sewage or electric service.
In order to preserve the shared resource of water, it has been sufficient historically to stagger the use with the odd/even watering days, and Monday “no watering”,
What has changed is that people move here and IGNORE the rules.
Since we are unable to get compliance, it’s time to expand the storage system to accommodate the inconsiderate residents who “deserve” to irrigate whenever they desire.
Pitt a $1000.00 per year fee on every home with a sprinkler system and buildmamhuge storage tank on Glen ave in midland park .
Problem solved.
the council has always been afraid to upset residents when the option of putting a larger storage tank exists. I wonder why they haven’t put any new smaller tanks around town or in other towns.
Maybe Anon would volunteer to have a storage tank next to his property
Kerry says US will take 85,000 refugees next year; 100,000 in ’17 and their all coming to Ridgewood
8:21 – did you know that automatic sprinkler system actually use LESS water than other systems? Most have rain sensors, they are zoned and only water for a few minutes in each area, water only where they are supposed to, etc. Maybe we should hand out fines to homeowners whose movable sprinklers water half of their driveways? Maybe we should hand out fines to homeowners whose movable sprinklers water for longer than they should, etc.
Tthis is NOT about the quantity of water being used overall, it’s about Ridgewood Water’s ability to pump. Ridgewood’s infrastructure cannot handle the demand during peak times to ensure that enough water will be available in an emergency.
11:47 did you know that underground sprinklers are THE reason we are at stage 4?
Most of the residents are too lazy to do ANYTHING , so they won’t be using movable sprinklers.
I am all for fining those sprinkler systems owners who do not have rain sensors, or who water their driveways and streets,
I am going to petition the council to rename Beechwood road “BEACH ROAD” because despite the ban on sprinkling many of the residents there continue to use automatic sprinklers and the road is so wet in front of the inconsiderate resident’s homes it looks like high tide.
Even today, Monday, the one home on the 300 blook was watering the beechwood botanical garden as they do 7 days a week.
4:21 – sorry darlin’ but inground irrigation systems are NOT the reason we are at Stage 4. There’s plenty of water in the aquifer. Ridgewood Water’s infrastructure is insufficient to pump it. Just ask Roberta…she said so at the Village Council meeting a few weeks ago. Ridgewood Water cannot pump enough for an emergency in high demand months.
Since the ban, I haven’t seen any sprinklers (movable or permanent) in my neighborhood operating (Somerville/Hawes area). But when they do, be assured that inground irrigation systems use far less water than indiscriminant lawn watering for the reason I mentioned above. I think all new homes (or significant remodels) should be REQUIRED to have inground systems with rain sensors installed. You can program them to be compliant with restrictions, including shutting them off completely. That, or we start requiring rain barrels.
Some who are ignoring the restrictions and watering all the time have reportedly stated that they do not care about the fine/s. It is really despicable. Water is a shared resource and as such we should all be willing to cooperate with this situation. Perhaps the pumps cannot pump as much as they should, but still the fact remains that we are in a severe drought and should be conserving water. My lawn and gardens look like hay, they are so dry. And as with some of the other postings, I also have neighbors who water, water, water. Their green lawns and lush gardens look really out of place now.
The existing tanks could have been replaced with larger tanks. There is no need to search for additional locations. All Ridgewood Water customers would benefit.
The council was spineless. Maybe this council can get the job done.
when they sell it in 2017 to the french, the offer is around 50, mill.
6;16 you are wrong. Existing homes have added automatic sprinkler system and the water distribution system cannot meet the demand. The dummies that have them are either too stupid to proper program them or are just plain arrogant. I see them on ALL the time on when it rains so the rain sensor must al l be broken.
If the sprinkler system owners paid a $1000 per year fee then the utility could upgrade to accommodate them. But make no mistake about it, the water utility worked well with the same number of homes BEFORE the existence of automatic sprinkler systems
More water= greener lawns.
Those with automatic underground sprinklers use a lot more water, despite what the fast talking salesman told you when he sold you the system.
That’s why the lawns with the sprinkler systems look so good.
