Their natural habitats are shrinking and they are looking for nesting places all along the busy highways, turnpikes etc. where the can gather dead wood. They build huge nests. They check an area out long before they lay their eggs and maybe noise isn’t one of their concerns.
Thank you James for this article. Ever since I’ve learned about The Schedler Bald Eagles I have been reading up on them. In 1782 the Bald Eagle became the national/ bird symbol of the USA. It was chosen because it was native to North America and known for its ” majestic beauty, great strength and longevity.” In 1940, the Bald Eagle was protected under the National Emblem Act . During the years of DDT use, their numbers shrank at an alarming rate. They are now on the endangered species list and cannot be ” hassled, sold, killed or disturb their nesting sites.” I don’t know a single kid/ young adult who would choose a 90 foot field if it meant the loss of the woods that have become a possible home for two pairs of American Bald Eagles. We can have a smaller field, save the woods, protect the neighbors from noise and particle pollution and protect our national bird at a cost of nothing! What a great deal. Now to convince the council majority and the village manager.
Here are the government wildlife guidelines on construction and bald eagle nests:
It is impossible to have your cake and eat it too Schedler and eagle friends. Any chopping down trees and other construction disturbances on that land will frighten the birds away. Don’t develop Save the Eagles

Ellie doesn’t quit….
The Village should jusse this property
The Village should just sell this property
There are no Eagles on the Schedler property.
Have you taken a walk there?
It’s a dump.
It should be cleaned up whether or not it becomes a ballpark.
Rich they are listed on the Village’s own paperwork
James said, Rich they are listed on the Village’s own paperwork
Since when did you (James) begin believing everything the Village says?
James, have you no shame? Coming up with any BS idea you could muster, with little respect for your readers intelligence? And while you are at it, why not argue for the fact that Schedler needs to be protected since a susquatch was recently seen there. Susquatch? Look it up.
next summer you can lead the Village Big Foot hunt
Dear James, Please post a picture of a Sasquatch so we can be on the alert. it may be an endangered species!
Touche!
James,
I believe the report you posted (https://theridgewoodblog.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/2015schedlergrantupdate-1.pdf) indicates that the birds have been seen “foraging” in the “vicinity” (defined as 1/4 mile per the report) of the Schedler property. So there have been no reports of a nest or anything like that. Presumably a house within 1/4 mile would have same status as Schedler property?
Rurik , did you say you saw Sasquatch at Schedler?
Glenn Frey was an eagle.
Donald Trump, whoever you are. I would like to assume you see the humor of my joke about the Sasquatch, but knowing the limited intellectual range of many of the Blog’s readers, I should categorically state that I did not see a Sasquatch, a figment of some idiot’s imagination. What I was trying to say is that the vocalantis, rhymes with vigilantes, will stop at nothing to get their way, including coming up with the most outrageous arguments.
There is a Sasquatch over there with a bowtie .
Eagles aren’t nesting, they’re foraging, as stated in the paperwork. While I am not in favor of the field, there’s no nests there. Try a different tact.
Insulting people’s intellectual range, calling people idiots, inventing insulting names for people who have different opinions and calling those people’s opinions outrageous – all in one paragraph – doesn’t craft a winning argument for being “above the fray” or better than the average Blog reader… And if you indeed are a very devoted and vocal supporter of the current Council majority, I don’t think it reflects well on them either. You are not doing them any favors by being so nasty and quickly reduced to the level of name calling.
Why can’t anybody just discuss the issues anymore? Agree to disagree? I have strong opinions too but make an effort not to engage in that type of behavior. It is just unnecessary and unproductive. I think if you can’t hold it together, in public or in writing, people can probably sympathize with that feeling but maybe you should reconsider participating until you can pull yourself together. This thread of comments was not uncivil at all until you took it in that direction.
