Ridgewood NJ,The Valley Hospital has been named one of the top hospitals in New Jersey by doctors and patients as reported by Inside Jersey magazine. The list appears in the magazine’s April issue.

The magazine joined with Castle Connolly, a healthcare research and information company, to ask New Jersey doctors to name the top hospitals for overall care and for specific conditions.  Inside Jersey also worked with IPRO, an independent not-for-profit health care consulting organization, to present post-discharge ratings of New Jersey hospitals by patients.

Among hospitals with more than 350 beds, Valley was named by doctors as among the top five in the state in the following categories:
· Top Hospitals Overall

· Top Hospitals for Pain Management

Valley was also listed among the Top Hospitals for the treatment of Neurological Disorders, ranking 6th in the state.

Inside Jersey also reported that among hospitals with more than 350 beds, New Jersey patients ranked The Valley Hospital as No. 1 in the state for communication with doctors, and No. 2 for overall patient satisfaction, cleanliness and communication with nurses.

“I am delighted that physicians and our patients gave us such high marks,” said Audrey Meyers, Valley’s President and CEO.  “It’s a testament to the priority Valley staff and physicians place on achieving the highest-quality clinical outcomes, while delivering the most compassionate care.”

  1. Maybe this should be made required reading by the membership of the CRR!
Yes, The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood’s CROWN JEWEL! And yes, you have to renew to continue providing first class medical services. And No, the Valley’s project will NOT mean kids will be run over on their way to school or asphyxiated by noxious fumes. The sight of those kids with face masks at the Planning Board Meeting would have been funny if it did not represent their parent’s depraved thinking. Shame on those parents, using their children as fodder.

  2. Shame on you Mr Halaby to create so much mess in our village. You should be ashamed of yourself and your fellow politicians to be so selfish.

  3. So doctors got to pick their own hospital for top honors? And folks from Rockland County got to call Valley a good hospital?

  4. Wait until the anti hospital people see this, they are not going to buy it.

  5. The “Crown Jewel of Ridgewood” has been, and will continue to be, the residents despite our recent differences.

I like Valley and had one of my children there. They’ve been great for broken arms, crushed fingers, etc. but we had seriously bad experience with one of their cardiology groups; we were told by Columbia Presbyterian to sue them for malpractice. Here’s the story . . . My husband is extremely healthy but has slightly elevated blood pressure. He went for an annual check-up with a new cardiology group and they did both a “silver” and “platinum” test on my very husband’s heart function. The “silver” results came but iffy, the “platinum” results indicated he was fine. Based on the “silver” results, they determined my husband had “chronic heart failure” and recommended he have and angioplasty and stents put in immediately. I said “No way. his is a healthy guy and we’re getting a second opinion.” So we went off to Columbia Presbyterian. The Columbia Presbyterian cardioligist looked at the results, examined my husband and asked “Why are you here?” He was appalled by the diagnosis but more appalled by the recommended surgery. He said Columbia-Presbyterian doesn’t even do angioplasty (except in extreme cases) because the risk of stroke or worse if far higher than other courses of treatment. And they never, never use the “silver” test as it is antiquated. He explained that you would NEVER do a “silver” test if you had a “platinum” test UNLESS YOU WERE TRYING TO PAY OFF THE “SILVER” EQUIPMENT. And you would certainly never make a surgery decision based on “silver” results which give a high percentage of false positives. And you would certainly never even look at “silver” results if you had “platinum” results which have an accuracy of 99.9%. So, it was the opinion of Columbia-Presbyterian that the local valley group was either highly incompetent or knew what they were doing and were just trying to pay increase their revenue. Or, worse, they wanted to perform the surgery on a perfectly healthy guy so their success % would increase. Can you imagine one group of doctors actually saying this about another group? Neither can I but it happened. (Oh, and just for good measure, we saw a third group who confirmed my husband was just fine).

  6. Rurik- And 4:17’s story should be required reading for everyone else. Now that you’ve shown up on this blog at another convenient time, another question that you will probably don’t have the guts to answer based on your unenviable track record. Outside of greed, what is the primary reason Valley is insisting on a 7-10 yr. expansion in Ridgewood when common sense tells everyone that to accomplish what they really want should be done elsewhere ?

  7. Rurik enough already – I agree 100% with 4:17 that the people of Ridgewood are the “Crown Jewels”.
We have a great hospital but it should work for us and not against us. Sueing the Village was a low blow. Why should we support an institution that ignores our opinions and does whatever they want? It’s too bad for you and your cronies that Hache, Voight & Walsh will win big next week because of your complete indifference to your neighbors.

  8. Actually, Mr. Halaby, sounds like they are doing just fine without a $750 million expansion. If they want to grow their business, that’s their prerogative. Just do it someplace with the proper zoning. Their site has been fully developed for years. If they want to modernize on that site, no one is stopping them. Just stay within their current zoning. Period.

  9. Valley Hospital–first in number of lawsuits against the town it leans on!

Mr. Halaby, can you at least promise us that if your favored candidates do not win on Tuesday, you will find other things to do than to constantly insult your fellow residents in word and deed?

  10. Four weeks ago the crack team at Valley missed my mothers fractured pelvis and irregular heart beat. Mr. Halaby, live up to your own word, don’t darken the hallways of HUMC when you fall and break your hip. BTW, mom required a pacemaker and ongoing physical therapy. Valley sent her home with Tylenol with codeine. Crown Jewel my ass!
