Ridgewood NJ, An adult male pedestrian dressed in a bright yellow jump suit with multiple bulging pockets asking for directions to the nearest school, aroused the suspicions of a Ridgewood resident living in the Willard Elementary School area on Wednesday afternoon, 10/18. Ridgewood PD received the resident’s 911 call shortly after 1:30 PM and sent multiple patrol units out looking for the individual. Police officers from HoHoKus and Midland Park joined in the hunt.
All Ridgewood Public Schools were placed in “lock down” condition during the search. 45 minutes after receipt of the 911 call, the party of interest was apprehended in front of 299 West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood, less than 1/2 block from the Ridge Elementary School. He was transported to Ridgewood PD for questioning. Criminal charges, if any, are pending.
Ridgewood Police report :This afternoon Ridgewood Schools were advised to shelter the students in place after a resident reported a man wearing what appeared to be a bullet proof vest asked for directions to Willard School. The person described by the resident was located by patrol a short time later wearing a black weighted vest which has the appearance of a bullet proof vest. All schools were cleared of the shelter in place at 2:15pm. This shelter in place was issued out of an abundance of caution to the school community.
What a riot! I just saw Boyd Loving in Rite Aid and he told me that many of the same people who are furious with him posting accident photos are clamoring to have more information and photos posted of the strange looking dude the cops grabbed near Ridge School. Can you believe these people.

7:55, perhaps it was for wearing excessively bright colors after Labor Day and he was charged with fashion faux pas 🙂

Perhaps he was drunk/stoned/high/suffering from some mental health problem?

Man oh man all you self righteous people would be singing a different tune if (god forbid) something terrible had happened with that man and the schoolchildren. 7:29 is exactly right. There was no over-reaction. The schools were on lock down as a precaution. No need to have kids outside during this. The man was located, questioned and the issue was resolved. Well done by all involved.
He was transported to Ridgewood PD for questioning. That doesn’t mean he was arrested. The police can detain a suspect with probable cause.
I just wonder if this guy was wearing rainbow colors and holding a bouquet of flowers would have been questioned. Any criminal can mask himself like that instead of an obvious prisoner like camouflage. And you can’t stop a queer these days for fear of discrimination backlash. Anyway glad all turned out well. In good old days when there was no mobile internet I bet this incident would have gone unnoticed and parents would not have been terrified like that.
