Ridgewood NJ, on Friday November 11th  at 11:00 a.m. in Memorial Park at Van Neste Square , the American Legion Post 53 will be hosting a Veterans Day service. All are invited to attend, to honor those who have served in the Armed Services to protect our freedom.

All Village departments and offices will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. There will be no garbage or recycling pickup on this day, and the Recycling Center will also be closed. Please check your Village calendars, as your garbage and recycling pickups may change, due to the holiday.

Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans.

This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.
