THE RECORD
RIDGEWOOD — Animal-rights activists have launched an online salvo against Councilman Mike Sedon, following remarks he made in an email this week concerning the recent state-sanctioned black bear hunt.
Sedon was among the hundreds of municipal officials to receive an email Wednesday from Vernon resident and anti-bear hunt activist Susan Kehoe.
An avid hunter, Sedon was elected last spring to a four-year term on Ridgewood’s council.
Kehoe’s email called on all local officials to publicly object to the documented killing of bear cubs in this season’s hunt, held Dec. 8-13. The same message also was delivered to the inboxes of Mayor Paul Aronsohn and the rest of Ridgewood’s governing body.
The email contained a graphic picture showing two lifeless and bloodied bear cubs strewn across a truck’s flatbed.
Lets see who wrote the story. Harris the Mayors press officer. Well Mike this will be used against you at some later date at a council meet when you disagree with Mayor. Just wait for it.
Memo from Mayor to Mike. Next time you say something to the press run it by White Horse Strategist first.
It’s a non issue.
Zero effect on village operations.
He is entitled to his opinion.
I don’t eat wild game since it makes me flatulate too much.
James you should take a stronger view against sedons stupid and disgusting remarks why do people vote for such a hateful person?
The Bears should get a union.
Any e-mails sent by other council members on this subject?
# 3 I know Mike for many years and he not the that person you described in you post. That being said the e-mail should have been worded a little differently to express his view. That being said Mike is not a skilled politician as our other Ridgewood Council Members. Thank God for that. Remember we are all God creatures and should be treated as such.
The animal rights crowd cannot be reasoned with. If they had their way, pets would have the right to vote. I’m not kidding.
The same crowd that objects to hunting is usually the same crowd that doesn’t mind abortion.
We should start calling it “A sportsman’s Right to Choose”
No , Mike Sedon is not a skilled politician, and he has no compassion for baby animals either.
He was speaking from the heart.
There is a strong Christian group that supports animal rights and humane treatment for animals.
Shooting birth control darts at bears should be pursued.
Yes, we are all God’s creatures number 6; as are the beautiful bear cubs.
Excuse me as I wipe tears from my eyes.
Sedon obviously posted a stupid response but Kehoe is a nut job…she sends a graphic post then gets a moronic reply… boo hoo…
No one cares. As council member he has no duties involving bear hunts.
I knew I liked this Mike Sedon and this event only highlights the fine qualities that led me to proudly cast my vote for him!
The activist in question got what she was asking for, so why should she be heard to complain?
Mr. Sedon did not ask for her to contact him. He is a perfectly polite individual and gave an honest answer. He absolutely did the right thing and should flatly ignore anyone who suggests otherwise. His detractors wish nothing more than to break his stride and I am incredibly impressed at his refusal to yield. As this episode clearly shows, activists tend to go apoplectic when their provocations are thrown back in their faces. And for an elected official to do the throwing? Priceless.
Thank you, Mike Sedon!! For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my Village.
The problem is that Sedon said that baby bear cubs taste good. That troubles me. Sorry.
Why is Kehoe a “nut job.”
Are people who want to preserve open space so that animals have a place to roam among other reasons to preserve open space, are they nut jobs too.
Are people who adovcate clean air, clean water and farming practices that reduce toxic pesticides , are they nut jobs too.
https://www.newjerseyhunter.com/forums/72-bear/175865-there-more-bear-attack-story-susan-kehoe.html … there is an example of why she’s a nut job… hunters have a role in conservation and a stake in preserving open spaces… equating this with environmental concerns including battery farming, pesticides etc is grasping for straws… I don’t hunt but believe that hunters are a plus for controlling the ever increasing number of deer and bears that are encroaching populated areas in the most densely populated state in the US …. and hunters I do know also advocate clean air, water and responsible farming practices…
FARTs send graphic animal snuff images in email and are unhappy with response. The email contained a graphic picture showing two lifeless and bloodied bear cubs strewn across a truck’s flatbed. The images were years old and from another country.
Sedon said he was an “ethical, lifelong hunter” and characterized some of the comments left about him on social media “borderline terroristic threats” he does not feel compelled to respond to.

A black bear hunted, killed, and mostly ate a New Jersey man this year. Why should sympathy for the species be at anything other than a low ebb?
Double down, Mike! If ever there was a teachable moment, this is it!
God made humans in his image and gave us dominion over all creatures great and small. This includes black bears. Hunting them and eating them is legal. Hunting them and eating them is ethical. Hunting them and eating them is moral. To say otherwise is to foolishly contradict natural law.
Humane treatment for bears. Birth control. Certainly controlled humane killings. If needed captured and given le injection like sick old pets. Also captured and put into zoos, or wild areas like Africa. We waste a lot of money here in Joisey. Every damn little town has a bloated govt. with its own police chief, school supt. etc. That is pure waste. According to experts at Universities.
People kill people more than bears kill people.
Bears are almost never dangerous; people oh yes, very.
If a person kills another person; we don’t care. If one animal in what seventy years or something kills a person we condemn the whole species.
New Jersey is an ugly high density polluted state. And the people here are savages. Me first; get out of my way. Kill all the wildlife. Develop all the open space.
In our family as a child growing up and raising children; I deplore hunting and guns in our country.
Sorry folks, I do not have blood lust; for animals or people.
Guess I’m a rarity, huh.
Number 18. wife beating was legal too , before Joseph Biden got the Violence Agaisnt Women’s Act enacted. And he is still working on that issue.
Cruelty to pet animals was once legal too.
I’ll bet you feel nothing if and when you watch the film Born Free. or Gorillas in the Mist. I’ll bet you are glad that Fossey was killed by the savages. You probably think they are heroes.
You probably hate homosexuals and want them persecuted too. Did you see The Imitation Game. How did you feel. I can smell you’re type. You are a disgrace to humanity.
“wife beating was legal too” really where ? most of us don’t practice sharia law ,btw as for Born Free
1968 – The lion Boy attacks a child. Although he survives, the incident tarnishes the reputation of his rehabilitation program. , 1971 – George’s assistant, Stanley, is killed by Boy. George is forced to shoot Boy.
1980 – George’s brother Terence Adamson is mauled by a lion. The Kenyan Government refuses to allow any new cubs to enter the rehabilitation program.
Sedon’s remarks reveal blood lust and cruelty in the highest.
An enjoyment of killing helpless animals that sicken me.
New Jersey is a beautiful state with justifiably proud residents. #20, you are clearly being too harsh.
Humans first. The particular plight of any other of God’s creatures cannot be allowed to exert undue influence over the affairs of man.
Does anyone have any idea how many individuals post as “Anonymous”? The postings seem to be very similar in tone.
this blog has one of the highest traffic rates in New Jersey , some months the blog has over 94,000 unique visits at last count there were over 122,000 posts on this blog and over 90,000 comments ,btw 40% of all comments are never posted for various reasons and Mike has a lot of supporters in town
Before 1990 when the violence against women law was enacted wife beating was legal.
If a woman went to ER , with severe injuries both the cops and doctors considered it a “family matter” and the mother was never prosecuted.
That was on CSPAN last night.
Lions are an endangered species. You think they are ugly. I can’t communicate with people who don’t see the beauty in God’s wild animals. Take away there open space and put in shopping malls that sell garbage. How many pairs of pants do you need to cover your butt? How many animals have to be killed to supply coats for you.
The reporter’s reputation for considering himself a buddy of the mayor makes his motivation in writing this story questionable.
Job 35:11 Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
“A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral.”
― Leo Tolstoy
Agree %100 #27. Must have been a slow news day and Harris was looking to get some point for the Mayor.
#29, how much weight should we accord to Leo Tolstoy’s opinion? Are you aware of any quotes of his in which he attempts to reconcile the clear differences between human and bovine dentition?
Mike is a great guy and the fact that he is a hunter has no bearing on his honesty and his skills for our Village. He is the real deal, unlike our two faced mayor, DM, and the hawk. Go MIKE. We love you!
My god, have you googled this Susan Kehoe? she is wacko
Time to hibernate everyone — relax the snow is falling —
Wife beating was never legal… assault is assault…. if a spouse was assaulted before Biden’s sponsorship of the VAW Act, she always had the right to press charges… the issue was the cultural norms (or abnorms) of the time… the pressure was not to file charges…. what the hell does that have to do with hunting bears?

James- are you going to do a book on the rejects? Yowza, they must be classics…
stalkers, wackos , erroneous posts and some stuff just to juicy to post
the problem is that this mayor and the other two meat balls think they are the boss of the town. the manager is seeing a lot of scams and bull going.
And what is she doing about it # 39?
What can she do about it #40? Surely she is aware of the fate of her immediate predecessor, who apparently could not have tread lightly enough to avoid angering the slumbering bear Aronsohn….
So thats it we continue as we have been?
Hang in there. One more year and we can vote these three out. We just have to keep, them from doing too much damage during their dwindling months.
From your lips to Gods ears #43.
