‘Apathy’ of villagers benefits developers

To the editor:

It is clear that the proposed hundreds of rental units will surely impact the Ridgewood schools negatively for years to come as many would use the cheaper “rental ticket” to enroll. Moreover, peak traffic, which is already an unbearable problem, will become even more so. Meanwhile, the rental units in the end would most likely not help the town’s fiscal situation given that additional enrollment at the schools and increased number of residents will lead to higher expenditure.

The town officials need to listen to the residents of Ridgewood rather than the sweet talk of developers. Significant high density developments will damage the town permanently, and the officials will end up bearing significant blame for the outcome. Bottom line: The developments in the Central Business District need to follow the existing building codes. No exceptions.

The residents need to keep in mind that our apathy is developers’ best edge. We need to get involved and be heard. To start, visit citizensforabetterridgewood.com to sign up and get more information. Also visit and “like” the Facebook page under the same title. The website lists many ways we could get involved.

  1. With Valley’s continued onslaught and four new developments it is difficult to keep up. Development fatigue sets in.

  2. The apathy of the people is evident in the voter turnout

  3. The people here don’t give a shit the way the old-time established Ridgewood families did. They are here on a temporary basis. 10 years or so while their offspring are in the schools. After the last RHS graduate is done, the for-sale sign goes up and they are gone. The town has been in a decline since many long-time Ridgewooders gave up and moved out rather than listen to their bullshit about everything.

    1. “Old-time established Ridgewood families”! What makes them so special? I know several people who grew up in town. Old yes, but nothing special. A couple are just here because they are still being supported by their parents. The old-time families produced duds for kids.

      1. The majority of the ‘old time established families’ are polite and respectful, unlike a good percentage of the newcomers. Any disagreements about developements, policies, local politics were on a cordial level. The nastiness that pervades in this town with the loudmouth new arrivals is a disgrace. Most likely its because they ‘stretched’ in order to move to their dream town, and expect the rest of us to pay up for their wish lists, whether it be a cement bottom pool or world class sports fields.
As for the comment about ‘a couple are just here because they are still being supported by their parents’… How would you know? Your just a jealous South Bergen brat whose treading water making payments on that big mortage.

      2. @4, The biggest ‘DUDS’ are the new residents, mostly employed in the financial industry. Hands down, the rudest, most arrogance, and most boring people to set foot on earth.

      3. I’ll take an old time ‘dud’ any day over you new beverly hillbillies.

  4. Look at the sampke ballot that we just got. Most running unopposed. Why vote?

  5. To call this place a “dream town” is hysterical. Dream on. You’re all rude as evidenced by the back and forth above. And once we have a monstrosity of a hospital where it doesn’t fit, and 4 large housing projects, it will be more like a nightmare.
