Armed Bergen Man Charged with Aggravated Assault On a Police Officer

Garfield NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of MARIO ARDIZZONE (DOB: 07/11/1976; single; unemployed) of 96 Farnham Avenue, Garfield, NJ on charges of Possession Of A Firearm, Possession Of A Firearm For An Unlawful Purpose, Aggravated Assault On A Law Enforcement Officer, Possession With Intent To Distribute Marijuana, and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.

During a narcotics investigation conducted by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s, MARIO ARDIZZONE was identified as a distributor of narcotics. On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, members of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team executed a court-authorized search warrant on MARIO ARDIZZONE’S Garfield residence. During the execution of the search warrant, ARDIZZONE pointed a firearm at a member of the SWAT team. ARDIZZONE was disarmed and arrested, and the weapon was determined to be a .45 caliber handgun loaded with hollow point ammunition. Quantities of marijuana and paraphernalia consistent with the distribution of narcotics were also found in the residence.

MARIO ARDIZZONE was arrested and charged with one count of Possession Of A Firearm While In Possession Of CDS With Intent To Distribute, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4.1(a), a 2nd degree crime; one count of Possession Of A Firearm For An Unlawful Purpose, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4(a)(1) a 2nd degree crime; one count of Aggravated Assault On A Law Enforcement Officer, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b)(9), a 3rd degree crime; one count of Possession With Intent To Distribute Marijuana, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5(b)(12), a 4th degree crime; and one count of Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2, a disorderly persons offense. ARDIZZONE was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and the Garfield Police Department for their assistance in this investigation
