MIDLAND PARK NJ, Assemblyman Christopher P. DePhillips is working with the U.S. State Department and Rep. Chris Smith to bring a constituent, Wayne Township resident Will Kearney, home from Peru. Will is a college student on spring break visiting family. He has been unable to travel since Peru declared a national emergency, including strict quarantine and stay-at-home orders enforced by police and military personnel.
“We hope that we can get Will home as safely and quickly as possible,” said DePhillips (R-Bergen). “Everyone is working hard, and the state department has done a good job bringing Americans home despite logistical obstacles. The goal is to include Will on a flight as soon as we can.”
Will filed for departure with the U.S. consulate and has been waiting for a flight home since March 17. There are still approximately 4,000 Americans waiting for flights back to the states. DePhillips has been in constant contact with Smith (R-NJ), who has been communicating with State Department officials and the U.S. Embassy in Peru on behalf of Will and other New Jersey residents.

nice to see someone from NJ doing something other than bashing the president
“Will is a college student on spring break visiting family. “
.
Great…..
Spend government time, money and resources to bring back a kid who chose to go on spring break during a pandemic, even though he has food, clothing and shelter with family memebers while abroad. Hardly stranded in a foreign country…
.
DePhillips should go back to either doing nothing or working on actual useful legislation.
.
yes because complaining about the president has been so effective for New Jersey
Anonymous, if you have nothing nice to say leave it alone…. this could be your child, Covid-19 has really only been in the spotlight for 3 weeks there were no travel bans when this College student went abroad too busy his family during Spring break. He did not do anything wrong and now is just trying to get home to the USA. I commend the assemblyman for his great efforts…..
Really?
Peru declared the lockdown on March 6th and this kid and his parents waited until the 17th to try and get back to the states. A full 11 days later. The assemblyman should be helping our local hospitals within his district sustain their day to day operations with desperately need supplies.
And this would NEVER be my child because I’m not that selfish and I’m not that stupid. He and his parents created this mess and now they must deal with their poor self centered choices.
For Joe N, facts don’t matter…
