Trenton NJ, Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips, the first lawmaker to introduce a resolution requesting a drone investigation, is now calling on officials from the Federal Aviation Administration to testify before lawmakers on the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee. The push for a hearing comes after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt read a statement from President Donald Trump on Tuesday that said the mysterious drones were approved by the FAA for research.
“I thank President Trump for following through on his promise to provide the public with information on the numerous drones that invaded our airspace for weeks, but we still have questions,” DePhillips (R-Bergen) said. “The federal government needs to clarify what kind of research the drones were allowed to conduct, reveal which commercial or government entities were operating the drones, and explain why local and state officials were kept in the dark. The quest for answers continues.”
In December, the Assembly overwhelmingly passed DePhillips’ resolution demanding the feds thoroughly investigate the unidentified drones in New Jersey and communicate their findings.
Under the Biden administration, federal officials claimed to be unable to corroborate any of the visual drone sightings and said reports by the public, state police and military officials were actually lawfully operated aircraft or even stars.
“An open and public hearing with federal officials in front of state lawmakers on the origins and actions of the mysterious drones would provide the transparency we all deserve,” DePhillips said. “President Trump quickly and thankfully provided the facts so we are no longer worried it is the enemy, but we want to be able to ask questions and get an immediate response.”
Mysterious drone sightings started throughout New Jersey in November. Since then, they have been spotted near important and sensitive military operations, critical infrastructure and President Trump’s residence in Somerset County.
“Was it research drones that grounded airplanes and diverted a medical helicopter? Were the research drones impeded by the FAA’s flight restrictions issued in December?” DePhillips asked. “We need to establish a dialogue with federal officials under this new administration that is productive and direct. I believe a hearing is the best way to create the trust and cooperation we all need.”
DePhillips is one of five Republicans on the Assembly Transportation Committee. The next earliest possible meeting would be Thursday, Feb. 13.

These sightings are continuing to happen but the statement from Trump administration insinuated that this occurred past tense and is no longer occurring. People (including one government official from New Jersey) are filming orbs that transform into a winged flying object before their eyes. These people are not lunatics and they deserve the truth. This phenomenon is occurring all over the world and is not localized to New Jersey but media is muzzled on the topic so until people see it themselves, they don’t even know it’s occurring.
Saying that this was FAA research but yet the CIA and FBI were called into investigate with no explanation for months is ludicrous. It’s an insult to people’s intelligence as well as so called democracy.
Don’t p*ss on my leg and tell me it’s raining. Totally ridiculous statement from the White House.
Let me tell you something. The government knows exactly where these drones are coming from now they’re sending local police departments to get trained more time more money.
