Ridgewood NJ, continued attacks on the mayors sons has begun to erode confidence in the ability of the police department to do its job. It ‘s only a matter of time before attorneys begin to argue that discrepancies in the police hiring process force the hiring of unqualified officers .
The attacks led by Don Delzio , and his cadre of pro garagzilla , pro RBSA turf field at Schedler and pro over-development of Ridgewood on the mayor have had the net effect of degrading the entire Ridgewood police force .
The fact is Ridgewood is a civil service police department like it or not you have to pass a test and a physical test and a psyche exam not matter who mommy or daddy is. If you look back 6 or7 years ago John Ward was the chief in Ridgewood and he couldn’t get his second son on the job. If the boss cant get his own son hired it doesn’t say much for nepotism. There is also the rule of 3 the hiring authority has to pick from the top 3 candidates if you are not there you have to wait.
Mayor Knudsen’s husband is a police officer. It is very common for children in professions of this nature to follow in their parents foot steps. My brother was career army. All his children considered military service. My two nephews are NYC Firemen. Their grandfather was a big wig official in The NYC Fire Department. The tests for Fire and Police are rigorous and we do hire Ridgewood residents first and foremost and as far as police It is a civil service appointment and the guidelines are strictly enforced.
Ridgewood is civil service and village council has no control over hiring. New Jersey Civil Service dictates all hiring procedures. Don and his friends if they are so interested should apply below:
Applications are available for The New Jersey Civil Service Commission Law Enforcement Examination. The Ridgewood Police Department uses the eligibility list provided by the State to hire candidates. The test is given every three years.

2. Applicants must meet the residency requirements of the appointing jurisdiction as of August 31, 2016 and may be required to maintain continuous residency in that jurisdiction up to and including the date of appointment.
3. Applicants must be high school or vocational high school graduates, or possess an approved High School Equivalency Certificate by August 31, 2016.

NOTE: The age 35 maximum hiring requirement applies only to Municipal Police Officer and its bilingual variants.

“Ridgewood NJ, continued attacks on the mayors sons has begun to erode confidence in the ability of the police department to do its job. ” STOP with this bullshit. Susan stop playing the victim. The Police Dept. will be just fine. This bullshit was brought up about the former mayor son the Police Dept. and the Village survived.
Some poster need not apply. No matter which side of town you from.
Appointees may be required to pass thorough medical and drug screening, and psychological/psychiatric examinations. Failure of any of these is cause for removal from that title area.
Feeding at the public trough
8:36 So all public employees are “Feeding at the public trough” Is that your saying?
When Boyd sees a car accident does he photograph those noticing the wreck or those that actually made the wreck happen? Castigating those that are noticing in this case blames the victim.
Since it’s so damaging perhaps Susan would like a hiatus for this blog. You know, just a little while…..
The last gasp of those losing the argument is saying the conversation needs to stop “in defense of the institution.” See, for example, all those worried about “the institution” of the FBI that are railing against the President’s criticisms. I guess this issue is making Dear Leader nervous since her hit squad of cyber bully lackeys can’t shout it down. The worst political scandals are ones that ring true. #SelfServing seems to have hit that mark. For what it’s worth, you’re right: John Ward couldn’t get his son on the force. That takes being Mayor. After all, both of the recent mayors – political animals these pages full-throatedly support – have made that happen for their children. Instead of refuting the argument your point about Ward actually proves it.
There’s no erosion of confidence in the Ridgewood police on this score. They have other issues but this is not one of them.
The village of Ridgewood doesn’t follow simple service guidelines throughout the village that’s the problem. Maybe in the Police Department And the fire department, but in the other departments they do not.
This article is a lot of bs. The Ridgewood Police Department is professional from to to bottom, whose members have the best interests of the citizens of Ridgewood.
Sounds like someone is getting ready to play the victim since an election is coming up.
From what I know and see the village Ridgewood should send all the management to civil-service classes, why because they don’t seem to know the rules and the laws of the system. They could avoid a lot of problems , If they just followed the rules and the laws And obey them. But at times they choose to be above the law And that’s what gets them into trouble.
Why bother with all the no nepotism B.S. it’s run rampant in the village forever. Frank Moritz was the head honcho and both his sons were hired and fired after he left.chief Ward didn’t live in Ridgewood but both sons were hired to the Pd. One lost out after an accident while in the academy. The water dept had Harold Florence as superintendent and his son became the boss also.the Shortways have a large number of family members working in different departments.just look corrupt when you sit on the council and your kids get the jobs.
Those who pursue the opportunities as they pop up, and are found qualified, get considered for those positions. Let’s hear from the better qualified candidates who were aced out by another candidate in the category at issue! Hello?!? (*crickets*) Bottom line: If there exists no specific person actually being heard to issue a related complaint, then there is no issue. Just some crank taking pot shots. Time to move on to real issues folks.
I’m in total favor of all families joining us about what is a great thing to join the workforce. Family relatives friends whoever welcome aboard. Too many people are jealous.
