PISCATAWAY – The celebration was cut short. But the victory will live on in Ridgewood history for all time.
Trailing top-seeded Moorestown by two goals with just over seven minutes left in the girls lacrosse Tournament of Champions final, No. 2 Ridgewood staged an incredible comeback to earn a 10-9 win on a misty Saturday afternoon at Yurcak Field in Rutgers.
Senior captain Sally Jentis scored the last two goals for Ridgewood, including the game-winner with 2:44 left, and the Maroons defense shutdown the Quakers for the final 10 minutes behind the outstanding play of senior goalie Isabel Sippel, who made 11 of her 13 saves in the second half.

July 4th in Ridgewood is a very special day that our entire area looks forward to all year. This year’s theme is “Celebrate the Constitution.” The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Committee is an all-volunteer community group that coordinates the day’s events and does not receive direct funding from the Village of Ridgewood.
While the Parade is free, Fireworks Tickets are required for entrance to Veterans Field. Donations for Fireworks Tickets are one of the Celebration’s largest sources of income. Ticket sales cover the evening entertainment which begins at 6:00 P.M., the fireworks at dark, as well as the bands in the parade, additional security and traffic control. Come early and enjoy some great entertainment.
After performing in our parade Illumination Twirlers will be our first performer of the evening. They have participated in the parade for over thirty years and are an important part of our celebrations. We look forward to another wonderful show. They hold state, regional and national titles including an AA National Team Championship. In 2008, the girls performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as members of the All Star Twirlers. The girls also compete in a wide variety of individual events including Dance Twirl, 2 Baton Twirling, 3 Baton Twirling and Freestyle. They are accomplished in many areas.
Long time sponsor and participant, Miss Patti’s School of Dance, will perform two short dances. One is a patriotic tap dance with dancers in military costumes. The other will be the Betsy Ross Rockettes. Children from ages 2 1/2 through teen are welcome at Miss Patti’s. All children experience the wonder and joy of dance in an environment that nurtures their individual creativity and personal growth.

The Manhattan Dolls blend beautiful ballads with your favorite toe-tapping tunes, and of course, in classic USO fashion, takes some time to honor our brave men and women in the military. The Patriot Brass Ensemble is the first and only professional brass group dedicated to serving Veterans. The Patriot Brass Ensemble functions, works, and sounds much like the “premiere” active duty military bands in Washington DC. They spend many hours studying military protocol so they can seamlessly fill in for these bands who, unfortunately, rarely perform for Veterans’ events due to cutbacks and availability. Long-term goals include annual concerts at every Veterans’ Hospital in the United States, and the establishment of mobile groups that perform for individual events, such as fundraisers, ceremonies, parades, holidays, weddings and interments nationwide. The Patriot Brass Ensemble strives to return the humanity to the Veterans who have sacrificed so much serving our county with their full devotion and honor.
We welcome back Doug Angel and The Fallin’ Angels exhibition skydiving team. Weather permitting their tea will land on Veteran’s Field at 8:00 P.M.. At dusk, Fireworks Extravaganza will put on a fabulous show. Each year we have one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in our area. The very best viewing area is right on Veteran’s Field. The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Committee thanks Applebee’s for sponsoring the finale of our fireworks display.
For many years the cost of our tickets remained the same while our costs increased. This year we have increased our ticket prices. It was a decision that the Committee did reluctantly in the face of rising costs. To keep the ticket prices as reasonable as possible for attendees, while covering costs, pre-sales of tickets are being made available through a wide range of local businesses.

Most Americans still believe government workers work less and make more money than those employed by private companies. Yet while the majority also thinks government workers enjoy more job security, they’re less convinced of that than they were a year ago.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that only 11% of Adults think those employed by the government work harder than workers in the private sector. Sixty-six percent (66%) say those employed by private companies work harder. Twenty-three percent (23%) are not sure.

How’s this for a wake-up call? America’s most cherished civil liberties and the Constitution that enshrines them are enabling Muslim Brotherhood operatives and other Islamists who have the declared mission of destroying our freedoms and government “from within … by [our] hands.” Specifically, our enemies are using our tolerance of religion to create an infrastructure of mosques here that incubate the Islamic holy war called jihad.

JPMorgan Chase is forecasting another 4 to 5 percent drop in home values over the next 12 months.
In its June 2011 Home Price Monitor Report, the bank lowered its base home price forecast to a level that’s 37 percent under peak price levels.
The financial-services firm blames its lowered price expectations on a supply-and-demand imbalance, as well as anemic consumer demand and disappointing economic reports.

WESTWOOD — The borough planner advised the Planning Board on Thursday to add a statement to the master plan that makes it clear the borough supports the presence of a community hospital, along with a health care and wellness district.
The advice came at a Planning Board meeting to review the status of four zones at or near the former Pascack Valley Hospital on Old Hook Road that encompass the hospital, health services offices, retail, and wholesale and light manufacturing.

America is known to have some of the worst drivers. And well, plain and simply, more than one in five Americans or an odd 36.9 million are not fit to drive and are at high risk of failing a driving test, according to a recent survey conducted by GMAC Insurance. Despite these words, the bright side to this is that the amount of people is less than last year’s 38 million and average score of 76.2%. This year’s grade score is 77.9%.
Now this doesn’t really surprise me. I’ve driven in a good amount of states and have seen some awful driving and these numbers represent why. The results translate into lack of basic driving knowledge, which can lead to ignorance and bad driving habits.

The Village Council voted Wednesday night to introduce two amended ordinances that would set aside thousands of dollars for “incentives” for village department heads and non-unionized workers.
The ordinances, which would offer incentives for managers – not including the village manager – and non-union personnel of up to 4 percent over two years, faced adamant opposition from Councilman Paul Aronsohn at last week’s work session. Aronsohn was the sole vote against introducing the ordinance on Wednesday.

A pedestrian bridge that connects the two athletic fields at Ridgewood High School (RHS) – crossed by hundreds of students each day – has structural deficiencies that have yet to be addressed by the school district, and vehicles have been seen using the bridge despite a weight limit, according to a village resident who lives near RHS.
The pedestrian bridge connecting Stadium and Stevens fields at Ridgewood High School was closed following flooding in April. More than two years ago, the Ridgewood school district received an engineering report on the pedestrian bridge over the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook between athletics fields at Ridgewood High School (RHS), citing concerns with the bridge’s structural integrity.
The report, prepared by Mark Micucci of Micucci Engineering and delivered to the district in January 2009, notes that the exposed top side of the bridge is in “relatively good condition” and its underside in “fair condition,” but reveals problems with the structure of its abutments, particularly its southern abutment.

The U.S. is approaching a financial crisis worse than 2008, Jim Rogers, chief executive, Rogers Holdings, warned CNBC Wednesday.
“The debts that are in this country are skyrocketing,” he said. “In the last three years the government has spent staggering amounts of money and the Federal Reserve is taking on staggering amounts of debt.
“When the problems arise next time…what are they going to do? They can’t quadruple the debt again. They cannot print that much more money. It’s gonna be worse the next time around.”
