What’s this I see in Ridgewood? A very interesting exhibit is taking place at the Stable 259 North maple Ave from June 4th to June 30th .Featuring the paintings of Louise Ann Mabil (https://www.lamabli.com/). Gallery Hours are from 11-5pm Monday through Thursday. You won’t see a room full or landscapes or still life’s this collection is modern, yes I said modern, in Ridgewood, very prolific and very eccentric. I know that some of you view modern art as a symbol for the very break down of the moral fiber of our society and cringe at the very notion that “the modern” has reached our little village but there is something for everyone and there is certainly food for thought so don’t over look it on these warm summer days.

>Porter’s contract was 5 YEARS

>Article 2 of 3, Article ID: 57824496Published on October 24, 2002, Record, The (Hackensack, NJ)
New chief of schools good deal, village says
RIDGEWOOD – John R. Porter Jr., the district’s new superintendent of schools, will be paid $2,000 more a year than his predecessor, but school officials say taxpayers are getting a good deal. Porter, 56, will receive $175,000 a year under his five-year contract. His salary will be prorated this year, since he starts his new job next month.. One of Porter’s biggest perks is that he will be permitted to buy credit in the pension system.. “

Mark,
I was extremely disappointed to read in the Ridgewod News that you would so disingenuously mis-characterize John Porter’s contract as a 4-year contract when you know (as do so many of us) that it was a 5-year contract he had signed in 2002. WHat is the point of this? WHy pull the wool over the eyes of the public? WHat are you trying to COVER UP? WHy did you think you would get to do so with impunity? This level of disrespect to the taxpayer really takes the cake.I am disgusted!

>Update : Dr. John Porter

>the ridgewood blog has heard…..when Porter was hired in November 2002, he was hired for a 5-YEAR CONTRACT. How then can it be reported in The Ridgewood News, “According to BOE President Mark Bombace, Porter’s four-year contract has just expired and the board was discussing plans to renew it.”

Furthermore …. Porter’s fourth year does not expire until November 2006 (almost 6 months from now). …perhaps Mark Bombace needs to explain ?

>Truck Ban….

>Police Chief William Corcoran and Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser recently presented Mayor David Pfund and Village Council members with several recommendations aimed at improving pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety in the downtown business district. One of the proposed ordinances would ban ALL truck deliveries in Ridgewood’s Central Business District between the hours of 10:00 AM and 11:00 PM. Yes, that’s correct, no truck deliveries anywhere downtown for a 13 hour period, 7 days per week! It is possible the proposal would include deliveries being made by drivers for FedEx, UPS, and the US Postal Service.

>Back Rent

>During the Village Council’s May 24th Work Session, Councilman Jacques Harlow publicly revealed that the Social Services Association of Ridgewood, Inc. hasn’t made a rent payment for their headquarters at 6 Station Plaza in over seven (7) years. The property, formerly a baggage/freight office for now defunct Erie Lackawanna Railroad, is owned by the Village of Ridgewood. Councilman Harlow estimated that Social Services owes the VOR approximately $12,000 in back rent. Social Services’ lease for the property expired in 2002.

>Glen Rock PD To Use Pease Memorial Library Building?

>The Pease Memorial Library building, located at 30 Garber Square Ridgewood,
is being considered as the site Glen Rock Police Department officers will
call home during renovations planned for their current headquarters at Glen
Rock Borough Hall. According to a report in the May 29th edition of The
Record, Ridgewood Mayor David T. Pfund and Village Council members have not
yet discussed this proposal.

Use of unoccupied space at Pease has been a hot topic of discussion at
several Village Council meetings in recent years. The building’s entire
main floor became available for use when Ridgewood’s Police Department moved
back to Village Hall in August of 2005. Council members have not yet
reached agreement as to what should be done with the vacant space. The
local League of Women Voters chapter has suggested the space be designated
as for “public use only,” while others suggest it be rented out to the
highest bidder, with revenues directed to the Library’s operating budget.
