More Upside to Government Shut  down : the Obama administration’s ongoing efforts to wreck the U.S. economy has been put on hold
By Ben Goad and Julian Hattem – 10/06/13 12:07 PM ET

Regulators and proponents of stronger protections warn that rulemaking delays will jeopardize public safety and health. But some conservatives say the reprieve from red tape is welcome, even if it doesn’t last long.

“We’re very pleased that the Obama administration’s ongoing efforts to wreck the U.S. economy with more and more heavy-handed and colossally expensive regulations has been put on hold,” said Myron Ebell, director of the right-leaning Competitive Enterprise Institute’s energy and environment center.

“By and large, the people writing those regulations and trying to get them promulgated are not in the office,” he said.

Thousands of workers from U.S. regulatory agencies have been sent home indefinitely as Congress tries to reach an agreement on legislation to restart the government. Several agencies are operating with fewer than 10 percent of their usual workforce.

Regulatory activities have fallen by the wayside, as remaining workers must limit their focus to the most crucial functions to protect lives and property.

The effects can already be seen in the Federal Register, where new regulations and draft rules are published daily.

NJ Senate Battle Is Fought in Suburbs

Lonegan Goes After Booker Where the Newark Mayor Is Weakest

By
HEATHER HADDON

How does a dyed-in-the-wool conservative win a U.S. Senate seat in New Jersey, a blue state with 732,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans?

For Steve Lonegan, it comes down to hammering his Democratic opponent, Cory Booker, where he is weakest—in some of New Jersey’s suburbs and conservative-leaning areas. And polls show that Mr. Lonegan could pick up some of these votes, especially among whites and men.

“I want the libertarians, I want the tea partiers, I want the conservatives, I want the Reagan Democrats,” said Mr. Lonegan after Friday’s debate against Mr. Booker. He said the Democrats who go to church on Sundays and the “shooting range on the weekends” are his target voters.

Mr. Booker, the mayor of Newark and a national figure among Democrats, leads in recent polls by about a dozen percentage points for an open U.S. Senate seat. The margin, while still comfortable, is closer than expected for the Oct. 16 race.

TEANECK — Governor Christie made a pitch Sunday for school vouchers — which he tried unsuccessfully to get through the Legislature — to an Orthodox Jewish group concerned about the cost of private religious schools.

Speaking at the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center’s second annual legislative breakfast in Teaneck, Christie didn’t specifically focus on religious education, but said the state has 200 failing schools — which he called “failure factories” — and argued that children in those districts deserve the chance for a better education.

More than 500 people turned out to hear Christie, who is running for reelection in November against Democratic state Sen. Barbara Buono.

The Orthodox advocacy group is trying to get public aid for families struggling with the cost of religious schools. Affording a Jewish education is “the No. 1 kitchen-table issue in our community,” Josh Pruzansky, regional director of Orthodox Union Advocacy, said Sunday before introducing Christie at Congregation Keter Torah

Ridgewood Emergency Services : Ambulance Billing Frequently Asked Questions

emergency_theridgewoodblog.net

Ridgewood Emergency Services : Ambulance Billing Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be billed?
All patients who are treated and transported by our ambulance will be billed. We will use a third party billing company to bill a patient’s insurance company. Village residents or Village employees will not have to pay anything beyond what the insurance company provides. Non-residents will receive up to three bills, at which point the Village will have the option of cancelling the debt.

Will I be billed for an emergency call even if I don’t ride in the ambulance?
If no treatment was provided, there will not be a bill. If treatment is provided without transportation, a reduced bill may be issued.

What will it cost me?
This program will collect money from a patient’s insurance company and not from the patients themselves. The Village will collect payments from the insurance company and will not seek co-payments from our residents.

What if I can’t pay or don’t have insurance to cover the cost? Can I still be treated?
Treatment will be provided prior to asking for any insurance information. No patient will be denied treatment or transportation. If the patient does not have insurance, a bill will still be sent; however, the Village will have the discretion to cancel the debt.

What are the benefits for the Village of implementing a billing program?
This program will allow the Village to generate funds to help cover the budget for Ridgewood Emergency Services.

What will the town do with the revenue generated from the billing program?
All funds generated through billing will be used to support the ambulances, emergency service programs, and the volunteers.

Please call 201-670-5570 x101 or email [email protected] with any questions.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Can not quantify those who Signed Up for Obamacare

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Can not quantify those who Signed Up for Obamacare
October 7 2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew refused to answer Fox host Chris Wallace’s simple question : : How many people have signed up for Obamacare?

Wallace pressed the question , “I’m going to ask you one last time,” ,”because, forgive me sir, you haven’t answered it: do you not know how many people signed up, which would seem to indicate another major software glitch, or is it that the numbers are embarrassingly small?”

Lew stalled ,”Chris, our metric for this week was, could people get online, get the information they need to make an informed,” said Lew, sidestepping the straightforward question. “They have been getting that information. We are confident that they are gohttps://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/treasury-secretary-stonewalls-when-asked-how-many-have-signed-obamacare_759310.htmling to make the decision — they have 6 months to make the decision.”

The fact the US Treasury Secretary could not even come up with a simple answer  in and age where webiste like Google analyze your every search and federal agencies like the NSA read all your emails seems a bit ridiculous  .

The glitch plagued launch of Obamacare was initial blamed on high web traffic , then hackers  but its becoming clearer that the whole system is flawed .

According  to Forbes , Exchange agencies have walked back high-traffic hype .

“Other exchanges have had to pare down their initial statistics. Covered California, that state’s subsidized insurance exchange, initially claimed that its website had received 5 million hits on October 1. They later had to revise that number down 87 percent, to 645,000. KUSI-TV in San Diego is reporting that not one policy has yet been sold on the California exchange.”
https://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2013/10/03/enrollment-in-obamacares-federal-exchange-so-far-is-in-the-single-digits/

Yahoo! News gets over 110,000,000  Estimated Unique Monthly Visitors according to some estimates 8.53% of all internet traffic and when the site crashes its major news .
As wee have seen the Hacker problem is more and issue  of privacy concerns for both identity  theft  and political targeting from both the IRS and other government agencies . Given the recent IRS scandal of Tea Party Targeting  and the NSA spying on all Americans these fears seem well founded .

Ridgewood councilman wants legal fees paid

RIDGEWOOD — Fourteen years ago, as Tropical Storm Floyd battered North Jersey, Village Hall flooded and its phone systems went down. In a bind, the then-governing body turned to one of its own for help: Councilman Thomas Riche.

Officials passed an emergency resolution awarding the councilman’s North Haledon-based firm, Extel Communications, a contract to restore — and eventually upgrade — the building’s telephone equipment.

It turned out to be a lucrative and lengthy deal for Riche — netting him more than a quarter of a million dollars over the years, according to village records from 2002 to the present.

But an accounting mix-up uncovered in May — that Extel had been paid twice for the same job in 2012 — sparked a debate over whether the councilman’s longtime dealings with the village violated ethics codes. In the end, Riche pulled his contract with the village.

Now, the councilman is asking the village to pay for legal fees he incurred this summer when consulting with attorneys about the ethics allegations.

Mayor Paul Aronsohn confirmed that last week the council had discussed behind closed doors reimbursing Riche’s legal fees, but would not comment further. He did say the matter is to be discussed publicly at a meeting.

NYT reporter: Obama admin “most closed, control-freak administration I’ve ever covered”

posted at 1:01 pm on October 5, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Remember when the media rushed to talk about transparency in the Barack Obama “Hope and Change” era? Good times, good times.  Leonard Downie, who once worked as the executive editor of the Washington Post and wrote a novel about Washington corruption and the Iraq War, finds a bigger and non-fictional problem in the successor to George W. Bush.  Downie gives the Post a preview of his report from the Committee to Protect Journalists which outlines the Obama war on reporters and their sources:

“A memo went out from the chief of staff a year ago to White House employees and the intelligence agencies that told people to freeze and retain any e-mail, and presumably phone logs, of communications with me,” Sanger said. As a result, longtime sources no longer talk to him. “They tell me: ‘David, I love you, but don’t e-mail me. Let’s don’t chat until this blows over.’ ”

Sanger, who has worked for the Times in Washington for two decades, said, “This is most closed, control-freak administration I’ve ever covered.”

Many leak investigations include lie-detector tests for government officials with access to the information at issue. “Reporters are interviewing sources through intermediaries now,” Barr told me, “so the sources can truthfully answer on polygraphs that they didn’t talk to reporters.”

The investigations have been “a kind of slap in the face” for reporters and their sources, said Smith of the Center for Public Integrity. “It means you have to use extraordinary measures for contacts with officials speaking without authorization.”

Boehner: House will not pass bill to re-open government until Obama agrees to negotiate

Posted by Anita Kumar on October 6, 2013

Speaker John Boehner said Sunday that the House of Representatives will not pass bills to re-open the federal government or raise the debt limit unless President Barack Obama comes to the negotiating table.

“He knows what my phone number is, all he has to do is call,” Boehner, R-Ohio said on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

In his first extended TV interview since shutdown Tuesday, a defiant Boehner placed the blame for the fiscal impasse firmly on Obama, who has refused to sit down with House Republicans until they re-open the government at current spending levels.

“The president just can’t sit there and say, ‘I’m not going to negotiate,’ ” Boehner said.

Boehner said that there aren’t enough votes in the Republican-led House to simply re-open the government with no other strings attached.

“There are not votes in the House to pass a clean (continuing resolution),” he said.

But Democrats immediately called that claim false, arguing that 195 Democrats and 21 Republicans are ready to vote for that bill.

“Put it on the floor, and let’s see if you’re right,” Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. said in an interview on ABC after Boehner spoke

The Conservancy for Ridgewood Public Lands seeks your help!

We are embarking on a project to plant 6,000 daffodil bulbs in town. In order for this project to succeed we need to recruit individuals who will help us plant. Our planting day is Sunday, Oct. 20, rain or shine, so please mark your calendars!

This October community project will involve-the planting of thousands of daffodil bulbs throughout town.  Our goal is to make this an annual tradition. The project will culminate in April with a Daffodil Festival; this will be an opportunity to celebrate, with the community, the success of this project and to showcase some of the other accomplishments of the CRPL’s initial year.

In order for this project to succeed, we need your help!  We need to recruit individuals, families and members of community groups to come and plant with us.  We will be approaching schools, businesses and organizations.  We would like to encourage families to make this a project, (bulbs could be planted in memory/honor of family members and/or friends).

The CRPL and Project Pride will donate 6,000 daffodil bulbs to the community.  Contributions will ensure the continuation of this project next year.

Bergen County freeholders move toward merging County Police, sheriff’s forces; override Donovan’s reorganizing veto

The Bergen County freeholders took the first step toward merging the County Police into the Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, a move that appears certain to provoke a legal challenge from County Executive Kathleen Donovan.

A second and related legal battle also loomed when the freeholders voted to override Donovan’s veto of changes to the county code that explicitly give the board the power to reorganize county government.

The merger ordinance’s introduction and the override were approved by identical 6 to 1 votes, with Democrats David Ganz, Joan Voss, Steve Tanelli and Tracy Zur joining Republicans John Felice and John Mitchell.

Republican Freeholder Maura DeNicola cast the lone dissenting vote on both measures.
