Glen Rock NJ, if you’ve ever missed a call from your bank, it’s worth a follow-up. Last week, a Glen Rock resident found out the hard way how crucial that follow-up can be — and it may have saved them a staggering $150,000.

According to Glen Rock police, a local resident was alerted by their bank about an unauthorized attempt to withdraw $150,000 from their account. The bank, fortunately, flagged the transaction as suspicious and reached out for confirmation before proceeding. When the resident called back, the bank was able to cancel the transaction in time, potentially saving the person’s life savings.

But it wasn’t just the resident’s bank account that was compromised. Police noted that the identity of the person attempting the withdrawal appeared to have been hacked as well. The case has now been referred to the Detective Bureau for further investigation.

Bitcoin Threat: Another Scare for Glen Rock

The bank alert wasn’t the only fraud scare in Glen Rock last week. A couple reported receiving a threatening email on Sunday, alleging that malware had been installed on their phone. The scammer demanded $1,950 in Bitcoin, claiming they would release sensitive information if payment wasn’t made.

Police reviewed the email and stated it was “generic in nature,” resembling many similar scams seen before. So far, the couple has not sent any money, and there is no evidence their data has actually been compromised.

Glen Rock police urge the public to stay vigilant and remind residents to never send payments in response to such threats, which are increasingly common.

Last week, Glen Rock police handled 399 calls for service, a reminder of just how busy law enforcement is with protecting the community from both physical and digital threats.
