PARAMUS, NJ — A violent overnight storm has dealt a catastrophic blow to some of Bergen County’s premier golf destinations. Local officials and club managements have announced that the Paramus Golf Course, and Ridgewood Country Club,  have all sustained severe and extensive damage, forcing immediate, indefinite closures.

With debris littering the fairways, countless downed trees, and widespread utility failures, golf enthusiasts across North Jersey are facing a prolonged disruption to the summer season.

Multiple Premium Courses Impacted by Severe Weather

The scope of last night’s storm damage has left local turf management teams facing an unprecedented cleanup operation.

1. Paramus Golf Course & Ridgewood Country Club

Both historic courses suffered a direct hit from the storm’s core. While specific tree counts are still being tabulated, officials describe the damage to the playing grounds as “severe and significant.”

Management released an official statement confirming that player and staff safety remains the absolute threshold before operations can resume:

The safety of our golfers, staff, and community is our highest priority. Our maintenance team has been working around the clock to clear debris, assess the damage, and begin the extensive cleanup and restoration efforts necessary to safely prepare the course for play. At this time, we are unable to provide a reopening date.”

2. Golf and Country Club Face Severe Losses

Further confirming the localized violence of the storm cell, reports out of Paramus Golf and Ridgewood Country Club indicate the private course lost at least 75 mature trees overnight. Compounding the structural wreckage, the facility is completely without utility-provided electric power, halting normal clubhouse and maintenance operations.

Safety First: What Golfers Need to Know

  • Indefinite Closures: Because the damage includes hanging limbs, hidden hazards, and potential downed wires, residents are strictly prohibited from trespassing on the course grounds for walking, jogging, or viewing the damage.

  • No Reopening Timelines: Due to the scale of the destruction, none of the affected courses have been able to project a reopening date. Turf experts and tree removal services are prioritizing high-risk areas first.

  • Tee Time Cancellations: Golfers with upcoming club tournaments, corporate outings, or standard tee times should expect automatic cancellations and look for direct communication from their respective pro shops regarding refunds or rescheduling.

Local municipal and club crews are working around the clock alongside utility teams to restore power and safely clear the fairways. Golfers are asked to remain patient as Bergen County’s golf community navigates this severe weather setback.
