Weeklong Police Investigation Leads to Arrest of Bergen County Teacher

WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ — A Bergen County high school teacher is facing charges after a weeklong police investigation into reports of a suspicious man secretly filming women in a local parking lot.

Michael A. Conner, 43, who is employed as an English teacher at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan, was arrested on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The arrest was announced by Woodcliff Lake Police Chief Stephen Regula.

“Running Up Behind” Victims: Details of the Alleged Incidents

The investigation originally began on Thursday, July 9, 2026, when Woodcliff Lake police officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious man following a woman near her workplace.

Throughout that same day, officers were called back to the area several more times as reports flooded in of the same man following multiple women. The suspect was described as a white male in his 40s wearing shorts, a pink shirt, and a hat.

Following a thorough investigation, detectives determined that the suspect, identified as Conner, allegedly targeted different women in a local parking lot. Police state that Conner would run up behind the women while holding a mobile phone near his hip to secretly film their buttocks as they walked.


Charges Filed and Police Appeal for More Information

Conner has been officially charged with:

  • Disorderly Conduct (Petty Disorderly Persons Offense)

  • Harassment / Alarming Conduct (Petty Disorderly Persons Offense)

Following his arrest, Conner was released pending his first scheduled appearance in the Pascack Joint Municipal Court.
