The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating a death at the Super 8 Motel in Carlstadt, NJ that occurred on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. At approximately 5:11 a.m., on February 28, 2023, the Carlstadt Police Department responded to 395 Washington Ave after receiving a 911 call of an unresponsive female in one of the motel’s guest rooms. Upon arrival, officers entered the room using a master key card and found 22-year-old Karol Mejia of West New York, NJ, deceased. An investigation into the cause and circumstances of the death is ongoing, but a preliminary investigation indicates the death does not appear to involve foul play.
This investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Carlstadt Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Deputy Chief Thomas Cox. No additional information is available at this time.
