River Vale NJ, State Senator Holly Schepisi posted the following caution on a disturbing trend has emerged on TikTok which is being viewed as a ‘national threat’ of violence to schools on Facebook :

A disturbing trend has emerged on TikTok which is being viewed as a ‘national threat’ of violence to schools across the United States on December 17, 2021. Some of our local schools have sent out notices to parents today that they are working with local police departments, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s office, and New Jersey Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning as they monitor the situation. I am not aware of any direct threats against any local schools but in an abundance of caution there may be increased police presence in your local schools tomorrow. Please talk with your children if they have seen any of these type of videos and ensure that they keep open communication with you if they hear of anyone expressing a desire to commit violence in our schools. Make them understand that it is not “snitching” on a friend in a situation such as this. Also please monitor your kids’ online viewing habits. This is but one of many recent trends of shocking TikTok school challenges that surfaced and went viral on social media.

  1. Kids are trying to tell us something about schooling today. It’s not what we hope it is, it’s not what we remember and it isn’t safe.
