Bergenfield NJ, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday evening that a 94-year-old Bergenfield resident, Ernest Hofmann, has been arrested in connection with the fatal Dumont hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of an Englewood school teacher on Thursday.
Hofmann, a carpenter, faces charges including second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, fourth-degree obstructing the administration of law, and several summonses, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The victim, Elizabeth Feliciano-Rosa, 54, was struck at the intersection of Washington and Madison avenues just after 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, as stated by the prosecutor’s office. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries later on.
Following an investigation conducted by the prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Dumont Police Department, it was revealed that Feliciano-Rosa was hit by a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Hofmann as she crossed Madison Avenue. Hofmann fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Hofmann is currently held at the Bergen County Jail awaiting an initial court appearance in Hackensack.

Old drivers can be just as dangerous as young drivers
Who lets a 95 year man get behind the wheel..?
Who lets ancient dementia Case Biden have the nuclear codes
I guess Ageism is an allowed bigotry.
What’s worse here? The alleged, perceived “ageism” or the fact that: (i) a woman was killed; (ii) someone made mention of the assailant’s age; (iii) the 94-year old fart fled the scene?
You’re sincerely more concerned about “bigotry” than the crime itself? A 94-year old man has had a long time, a long life, to learn that running someone over and fleeing the scene is not the right thing to do. Right? So at least in this instance, age has not conferred any special wisdom or moral uprightness on Grandpa Killdozer here.
And yes, people have every right to question the utility of old folks, typically with diminished senses and reflexes, operating two-ton missiles on wheels.
It’s not ageism…cognitive decline and diminished hearing and vision is real in the elderly. 94 is certainly elderly. It is not unreasonable to restrict the driving PRIVILEGES of those that lose that ability. We test the young to get a license and that is it. After that no more testing necessary?!? Really?!?
To the privileged, equality feels like oppression.
That should be a daily meditation for all the liberal-minded, social justice wankers who are constantly kneeling at the teats of the privileged pleading for equality for all. It ain’t what you think it is.
You should always respect your elders, even when they murder you and attempt to flee from responsibility.
The greatest generation strikes again!
A “carpenter?’ He’s still employed? Where?
According to Daily voice, he was charged, booked and released early Saturday morning:
” Hofmann was taken into custody late Friday afternoon before being booked into the Bergen County Jail. Musella didn’t say whether detectives seized him or he surrendered.
A Superior Court judge in Hackensack released him early Saturday morning.
Hofmann is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and obstruction. He also received several motor vehicle summonses, Musella noted.
