Ridgewood NJ, A “Blessing of the Animals,” celebrating the Feast of St. Francis, was recently (Saturday, September 28) held at Christ Episcopal Church in Ridgewood.  Reverends Greg Lisby and Dick Louis officiated at the outdoor event, which was attended by the owners of dogs, cats, rabbits, goldfish, stuffed animals, and other beloved “creatures.”  A short service celebrating all animals was conducted, followed by individual blessings of each animal.  Some orphaned dogs, who are eligible for adoption from the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland, were also present.

Will the person who lets their cat go out and decimate innocent wildlife in Grove Park and then crap in my yard and leave the bodies, please, please keep the damn thing inside?
You wouldn’t like it if my dog did that to you.
Wow, calm down. Maybe it is a feral cat? Maybe the cat should come in for a blessing. A little spirituality never hurt anyone.
Amen #2
It may be abandoned. I live by Grove Park also and see cars pulling over, drivers getting out lifting trunks. A little time later and there’s a cat in our yard. Coincidental, maybe. Suspicious, definitely.
Come to think of it, the cat may be a feral. It’s thin, ratty looking and the poops have worm eggs. Poor thing. Can anything be done?
Yes, try to catch it and bring it to a vet. That would be the absolutely right thing to do. It would be a great way to redirect your venom, and it would save the animal’s life.
By the way, you are not seeing worm eggs in the stool. Worm eggs are microscopic. You might be seeing worms, however, some of which are not long and thin.
In the spirit of St. Francis, do the right thing.
Cats suck.
Well, that’s very mature
People suck, who don’t take care of their pets.
NJ has Patrick’s Law to punish people who abandon pets. If you see it happen, get their plate number. All cats, dogs, and pets are God’s creation.
The cat hater spams this beautiful blessing thread every year.
I don’t know who I’m corresponding with. You may be a parishioner of this church or even the Pastor. If you are, you certainly don’t endear me to you or your religion.
The venom in your heart should be directed not toward me, but rather toward those who are abandoning these cats and toward the irresponsible cat owners who let their pets out to kill and maim God’s woodland creatures who are defenseless against them.
Please understand that I’m not against HO– USE cats, I even like them, but outdoor cats are a different animal altogether. Lose your venom and consider this – I’m only trying to protect my family and pet from the diseases and parasites these free roaming cats carry into our yard.
Wild animals deserve your prayers and blessings also.God knows they need your help and concern against such ruthless predators as free roaming cats.
In America, free roaming cats kill 480 million birds a year.
That’s a lot of birds.
