The Incident: From Palisades Avenue to Chestnut Street

The sequence of events began around 2:30 p.m. when Bogota police officers responded to a 911 call near Palisades Avenue and Linwood Avenue. Reports indicated that a dog had bitten a 17-year-old girl.

While the teenager received immediate medical attention, officers tracked the animal to nearby Chestnut Street. According to a statement from the BCPO:

“As an officer approached the animal, the dog lunged, and the officer fired his weapon.”

Following the encounter, emergency services managed the scene involving three parties:

  • The Teenager: Treated for bite injuries and subsequently released to her family.

  • The Police Officer: Transported to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck for evaluation following the high-stress encounter.

  • The Dog: Officials confirmed the dog survived the shooting, though its current condition and location have not been publicly disclosed.

BCPO and Attorney General Oversight
