Ridgewood NJ, Looking for the best Halloween decorations in New Jersey? Look no further than the “Ridgewood Halloween House.” What started as a family’s simple attempt to attract trick-or-treaters has transformed into a massive, multi-month project that draws thousands of visitors every year.
From Humble Beginnings to Halloween Mecca
Back in 2016, the Maltin family had just moved to Ridgewood and was disappointed by a quiet Halloween night. The family’s patriarch, Peter Maltin, decided to take matters into his own hands. He started small, sitting on his porch to scare people, then gradually added decorations each year.
Now, his home at 294 West End Ave. in Ridgewood, NJ, has become a local legend. The “Ridgewood Halloween House” is so popular that Peter has to pre-order his candy and starts planning and setting up his elaborate display in the spring! Last year alone, he welcomed an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 visitors to his lawn.
A Skeleton-Filled Wonderland
For Peter, who works in finance, this is his creative outlet. His yard is now a skeleton-filled wonderland, with scenes ranging from a barbecue with “killer” food to a three-piece rock band called the “Dead Heads.”
He has all the must-have Halloween decor, including the famous Costco “groundbreaking” skeleton, a 12-foot animatronic grave digger, and a massive skeleton that stays up all year long. The neighbors are big fans, often stopping by to show their support for the display that brings so much Halloween spirit to the neighborhood.
