ABC News reported that a West Australian coastal town with a population ranging from 400 to 10,000 during the peak season needs more facilities and infrastructure to ensure sustainable tourism.

Stakeholders in the beach town of Bremer Bay, which borders a national park, complain that the town’s services are “stretched to the limit” during the busy summer season.

Bremer Bay is known worldwide as a prime location for whale watching due to the annual gathering of the southern hemisphere’s biggest pod of orcas.

Troy Treeby, manager of the Community Resource and Visitors Centre, said he would be happy to see additional funding from state and local governments allocated to address the issue.

Since “we simply don’t have such amenities in town,” he said, “a lot of visitors come in with RVs and they want to know where a dump point is and access to water.”

There was just one general shop in town, so he occasionally had to go without particular necessities. Many people come in the winter as well; thus, the problems aren’t seasonal.
