Englewood Cliffs NJ, after doing nothing to stop New York’s Congestion tax on New Jersey commuters U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released a new Congressional Report on New York’s proposed Congestion Tax. It’s based on a detailed study and analysis of the MTA’s announcement this past December with the specifics of their pricing scheme. The Congestion Tax will increase commuter costs, congestion, and cancer-causing pollution in New Jersey and the outer boroughs. Gottheimer also requested a meeting with MTA Chairman Janno Lieber to discuss the findings.

New York NY, New York City is experiencing its first Christmas season without Airbnb, and the cost of accommodations is on the rise. In September, the city implemented a stringent short-term rental policy that essentially excluded Airbnb, providing benefits to renters but limiting choices for tourists. Expedia Group reports a 25% year-over-year increase in hotel searches this month, with average nightly rates reaching $477, compared to last year’s still-high $416.

Long Branch NJ, in an embarrassing act of irony the Sierra Club, New Jersey Chapter joined Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) at a roundtable to highlight legislation to permanently ban offshore oil and gas drilling in the Atlantic Ocean. Last month, Pallone and Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) reintroduced the Clean Ocean and Safe Tourism (COAST) Anti-Drilling Act that prohibits the U.S. Department of Interior from issuing leases for the exploration, development, or production of oil or gas along the Atlantic Coast, including the North, Mid-, and South Atlantic and Straits of Florida planning areas. Booker is an original co-sponsor of the bill.
