Ridgewood NJ, The immediate area surrounding Spring and Van Dien Avenues in Ridgewood was flooded with water on Monday morning (10/06 @ 0945 hours) following an accident in which a HoHoKus driver struck a fire hydrant with his SUV. Ridgewood PD, FD, and EMS units all responded to the scene. The driver was uninjured, but his vehicle was towed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. The broken hydrant triggered a major water main break; personnel from Ridgewood Water and Ridgewood firefighters struggled with a shutoff valve for more than an hour to bring the leak under control. Representatives from PSE&G were called to the scene when firefighters detected a strong smell of natural gas in the area. Four (4) nearby homes were temporarily evacuated while emergency crews checked for any signs of accumulated gas. The intersection of Spring and Van Dien Avenues will remain closed indefinitely while crews repair the leak(s).
Let me be the first. They must have been texting. We should flog then in the center of town.
I think a bit of mockery and ridicule will suffice
Chance to cut the water off to Valley
Why do we let people from HHK drive in the Village ?
So the fire hydrant just came out of nowhere? Texting? Talking? Just asking……..
Mockery and ridicule while sitting in the stocks would suffice…
The car must have been approaching the 4 way stop at a high rate or speed to do that kind of damage.
I received a cryptic message from the village about a traffic incident, but it did not say where it was.
Nothing short of the driver suffering some kind of medical incapacity can explain how someone driving in a 25 mph zone can do this unless they are engaged in something like texting.
Or looking at a jogger’s ass instead of watching the road.
You could say that Spring sprung a leak….
Who pays for all the damage done? Insurance?
Yes; insurance company of auto owner whose car struck the hydrant. Of course they will try to negotiate downward claiming that our aging infrastructure was to blame.
I think it was Billy Idol behind the wheel…driving on the wrong side of the road….
#7, did the recording start with “Attention citizens of Ridgewood! It is I, your mayor…”?
Declan you left out mechanical malfunction.
