RIDGEWOOD — A man who told police in April that he was an attorney for “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Jacqueline and Christopher Laurita will now be looking for his own legal representation.

Mark J. McGuire, 53, of Franklin Lakes, was arrested last week and charged with a single count of unauthorized practice of law.

McGuire spent more than 45 minutes with the Lauritas as they were interviewed by police in April, following their involvement in a fracas at the grand opening of a salon in Ridgewood.

McGuire was with the couple as they left Ridgewood Village Hall following their meeting with detectives. All three entered a black Mercedes Benz with tinted windows and drove off.

A press release from the department claims detectives, as they were concluding their investigation into the assault last week, discovered that McGuire had falsely represented himself as a lawyer.

McGuire was released on his own recognizance. His first court appearance has not been scheduled yet.

RIDGEWOOD — Three cast members from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” will not appear before a criminal judge this evening, as previously reported.

The assault and terroristic threat complaints against “Housewives” star Jacqueline Laurita of Franklin Lakes; her husband, Christopher; and Joe Gorga of Montville have been adjourned.

The cases will now proceed in Ridgewood’s Municipal Court on Sept. 26.

The charges stem from a fracas at the grand opening of a salon in Ridgewood.

The charges had been referred in April to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury consideration, which returned the matter to Ridgewood for resolution last month.

The case of John Karagiorgis of Paramus, who is charged with assault and making terroristic threats as well as three counts of harassment, was also adjourned until later this month.

Karagiorgis claimed he was assaulted by the “Housewives” trio when cameras were rolling for the Bravo television series.

He said he sustained several injuries, including a head abrasion, when Jacqueline Laurita allegedly clubbed him with a stiletto heel.

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood BOE has appointed three administrators, including one to a newly created position, at its meeting Monday night.

In a major move Cheryl Best, a former director of curriculum for the Franklin Lakes K-8 district, will take over the position of assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment on Oct. 1 at an annual prorated salary of $160,000.

Best fills the position after Regina Botsford left after a decade at the post. Botsford accepted a job as the superintendent of a regional district in Southbury, Conn. in July.

Best comes to Ridgewood Schools after the Franklin Lakes BOE voted 5-4 against renewing her contract as curriculum director. Best, received a laudatory performance review and recommendation by Superintendent Dr. Frank Romano
and endorsements by other administrators and parents.Romano, who tendered his resignation April 28.

The record also reported that skills and Knowledge were an area of concern. Even
Romano has acknowledged that test scores have declined in recent years.

Urciuoli went on , “It seems that for today at least, New Jersey ASK is still the best tool in measuring our growth and success compared to our peers.”

Trustee O’Reilly also expressed concerns about the amount of time teachers spend out of the classroom for professional development, saying that some teachers have exceeded 200 hours of professional development within a few years. RIDGEWOOD — Three cast members from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” are scheduled to appear before a judge in September to face assault and terroristic threat charges.

Court officials confirmed Wednesday that the criminal cases against “Housewives” star Jacqueline Laurita of Franklin Lakes; her husband, Christopher; and Joe Gorga of Montville would proceed in Ridgewood’s Municipal Court on Sept. 5, starting at 4:30 p.m.

The charges — stemming from a fracas at the grand opening of a salon in Ridgewood — had been referred in April to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury consideration. But two weeks ago, the matter was returned to Ridgewood for resolution.

Also due in court Sept. 5 is John Karagiorgis of Paramus, who is charged with assault and making terroristic threats as well as three counts of harassment.

WYCKOFF — Despite the bleakest prospects in decades for teens looking for summer work, two Ramapo High School students are proving there’s still room for young entrepreneurs with a vision and motivation.

Classmates John Douma of Wyckoff and Alex Abolt of Franklin Lakes were hoping to find their first summer jobs in between their junior and senior years, but dreading the prospect of punching up orders in a fast-food restaurant.

So when the town decided in April to discontinue curbside pickup of grass clippings — requiring residents to transport the yard waste themselves to the recycling center — the two saw an opportunity for a start-up and went for it.

Today, they have a fleet consisting of one Ford F-150 pickup and seven customers, who each pay $50 a month to have up to four garbage cans full of grass clippings hauled off.

Ridgewood Police detail “Real Housewives of New Jersey” assault charges
April 5,2013

On March 30 2013 at 10:49 PM John Karagiorgis 38 of Paramus responded to the Ridgewood Police Department and reported an assault and threats. The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 PM during a filming of the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” at the Moxi Salon 74 East Ridgewood Avenue.

All of the involved parties left the scene and no notification was made to the Ridgewood Police until Mr Karagiorgis came to the police department an hour after the incident. The complainant signed criminal complaints against Giuseppe Gorga 38 of Montville, Christopher Laurita 46 of Franklin Lakes and Jacquelin Laurita 42 of Franklin Lakes.

The complaints were sent before Judge David Fund of the Ridgewood Municipal Court for probable cause and issued on.

On April 4, 2-013 the accused parties filed counter complaints and they will be scheduled for a probable cause hearing at a future date.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doub

A handful of New Jersey families will join an increasingly vocal national group boycotting state standardized tests this |spring, in the belief that they hinder true learning, fail to measure students’ skills, waste time and squander money.

This fledgling revolt comes at a time when education officials in New Jersey and elsewhere are relying more heavily on test scores to evaluate teachers, principals and schools, with the strong backing of President Obama and the vehement opposition of powerful teachers unions.

Jean McTavish, a Ridgewood mother and principal of an alternative high school in New York, said her 10-year-old son, Zak, used to stress out simply seeing the owl in the logo of the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge test, or NJ ASK. Zak and his 13-year-old brother, Ian, won’t be taking the tests this May.

Bergen County has some of the best municipal websites in New Jersey. It also has others that are closer to the bottom of the heap in terms of content and user-friendliness, according to a recent statewide study.

The survey by Monmouth University ranked four Bergen County towns in the top 20. Franklin Lakes finished second out of 540 towns, followed by Fort Lee (10), Englewood (12), Glen Rock (18) and Bergenfield (20).

At the other end of the spectrum were Rockleigh (523), Moonachie (525), Harrington Park (529) and Alpine (530). Most Passaic County towns were in the middle of the pack, with Ringwood topping out with a ranking of 74.

While home values have fallen about 25 percent in the region since the housing boom’s peak in 2006, prices have held up better in towns along commuter train lines.

According to a study by Otteau Valuation Group of East Brunswick, the average price of homes in Glen Rock, for example, fell from $638,854, to $567,174, from 2006 to 2012, a drop of 11.2 percent. In Ridgewood, another community with a train station, prices dropped 12.6 percent from $855,219, to $747,226.

While no homeowner would find a dip of more than 10 percent a source of comfort, these communities fared markedly better than North Jersey communities in more remote locations. Franklin Lakes, for example, saw home prices fall more than 29 percent from $1,487,113, to $1,053,997, while Oakland endured a drop of 22 percent from $554,791, to $432,489, for the same six-year span.

Homeowners in towns along the train lines say that an easy commute influenced their decision to buy.

Love may not keep them together, but a Bravo contract will.

How else to explain why, after brutalizing one another in Season 4 of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” some mortal enemies have been spotted dining and partying together in North Jersey lately?

Television cameras have been there to capture these reunions:

* Teresa Giudice warmly greeted brother Joe Gorga and his wife, Melissa, with an embrace and a kiss during a launch party for Teresa’s new Milania hair-care-product line Feb. 18 at Stone House at Stirling Ridge in Warren. Likewise cordial to the Gorgas was Joe Giudice, who also approached Teresa a number of times that evening for a smooch. Yes, the same Juicy Joe who was overheard last season calling Teresa his “bitch wife” in a mysterious phone call.

* At The Brick House in Wyckoff last month, the Giudices were spotted having dinner with former friends Jacqueline and Chris Laurita, according to TV and online entertainment correspondent Tom Murro, a Franklin Lakes resident.

* And in mid-January, Teresa and Caroline Manzo were at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern, tucked away in the second-floor Chateau Room for a private tête-à-tête.
